PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE
Due to the school being closed last Saturday,
the Parent Teacher Conference for Term 2 has
been moved to Saturday 31st January 2015
from 8am until 1.30pm. We would like to
apologise for any inconvenience this may have
caused but this was due to circumstances
beyond our control.
On February 5th, selected boys and girls will sit the
intermediate Mathematics Challenge here at Nada for the
first time! This challenge is organised by the UK Mathematics
Trust, which comprises of 25 questions that must be
answered in an hour. Not only do the questions get harder
but the tough questions will earn you negative marks for
each incorrect answer, which makes it more of a challenge!
This year at Nada School selected maths pupils will be given
extra classes by their maths teachers Mr Alex, Mrs Lavanya
and Mr Tariq. The questions do not just require knowledge
of mathematical facts, but they require the ability to use that
knowledge in unfamiliar contexts, and the ability to think of
different ways of approaching problems.
Sahl Khan, a UKMT mentor who is studying mathematics at
the prestigious University of Cambridge, England and a friend
of Mr Tariq’s, will be guiding a few Nada pupils, providing tips
and solutions and his expertise in attempting these problems.
Saturday 31st January 2015
Grades One to Three girls had wonderful time
at Herfy's Park.
In NADA school we believe that field trips give students
memorable outdoor experiences away from their regular
school environment, so we try to implement this activity
and give our students the opportunity to communicate
with their society effectively.
We can tell from the big smiles on their faces.
Sahl represented the UK
national team in 2012 in the
international Maths
Olympiad where the best
young mathematicians take
part in solving extremely
difficult maths problems.

it organises, go to http://www.mathcomp.leeds.ac.uk/

Hooray! to this year’s Sports Day Competition
gold medalist “The Green Team”.
Congratulations to Mr. Mostafa, Green Team
Boys’ Sports Day – Grades 4-10
Leader and his team for a job well done!
Congratulations to all team leaders, referees,
recorders and teachers in charge of the
materials for a joyful and successful day!
Every year, students look forward to one of the
big events at NIS, our annual SPORTS DAY,
where students are divided into four teams;
BLUE, RED, GREEN and YELLOW.
This is the
time for students to showcase their skills, learn
team work, build camaraderie and learn what
friendly competition means.
Team members and the team leader work
together to try and win each and every game or
sport.
Our students did a fabulous job during Sports Day.
They learnt how teamwork can lead to greater
achievements than individual work.
Both teachers and students had the time of their lives.

Sargon the Conqueror
During their Social Studies
period, Grade 6 Girls did a
great performance, which
was a role play about
Sargon the Great.
Sargon of Akkad was the first ruler to unite the
city-states of Mesopotamia into an empire. He
built an empire in Mesopotamia through a
series of violent conflicts. He kept his rule by
both force and good organization.
The students
really enjoyed this
activity.
The awarding of prizes to the winners was done
Well done girls!
right after the event. Members of the winning
team beamed with pride when they received
their trophy, medals, and of course their gifts.
The Use of Social Media
Students are reminded that all cellular phones
and mobile devices are not allowed on school
premises. Students are also reminded that
posting photos of or comments about school
related activities is also prohibited.
Please DO NOT post anything about school or
teachers on social media platforms such as
Facebook, Twitter etc. Thank you!

This month’s
competitions are really
out of this world
Can you build a model of a
spaceship or rocket out of
household items?
Use any unwanted items
that you find around the
house and build a
realistic model of a
spaceship or rocket.
Can you design a 2D or 3D display
board of our solar system?

Field Trip to Dream Park
Last week, students from KG1 had their
field trip. They went to an amusement park
(Dream Park). It was nice to see students
enjoying themselves in a safe environment.
After the rides they went to Herfys
restaurant to have their snacks.
This type of activity gives the young
toddlers a boost and motivates them to go
to school.
What we want you to do this month is to
create a detailed display board that will
be exhibited in the admin building
showing our solar system and how it
works.

Is space exploration
the ultimate prize?
Write an article for the Inquisitor magazine
explaining whether you believe that governments
should be investing billions of dollars into space
exploration when there are so many people around
the world who are trapped in poverty.

A big thank you to all the staff who helped with this trip.
FEBRUARY BONUS MERITS COMPETITION
End of Term 2 exams are
looming. Please make sure
that you are revising for them
properly. Exam objectives for
students in Grades 4-12 will
be available next week.
On Tuesday 27th January we had a fire drill in
school as part of our on-going safety
procedures to ensure that all students can
safely evacuate the school in case of an
emergency. Fire fighters from Nada Security
were on hand to assist in the practice. All went
well and all students were evacuated and
accounted for within 6 minutes.
During the month of February, we will be
holding a special promotion where every
student from Grade 4 – 12 will receive a
Golden Ticket for the Grand Prize Draw for
every 5 merits they receive.
Prizes will be announced at the start of the
month and the Draw will be at the end of Term
2, so start collecting those merits!

FEBRUARY BONUS MERITS COMPETITION
You can transform a photograph into an all-natural work
of art.
1. Ask your mother or father to take a full-body photo of
yourself in front of a fairly plain background.
2. Print out the photo as large as you can. Ours is 20cm
by 30 cm.
3. With your mother or father, collect natural items from
your yard, such as bark, leaves, twigs, and flowers.
4. Arrange the objects on the photo. There's no need to
glue them.
5. Take a photo of the new, collaged image and frame it.
We have just found one
confirmed case of head lice in
the school. Please make sure
that you examine the hair of
your children for eggs or the
lice themselves.
CHILDREN WHO ARE FOUND WITH HEADLICE
SHOULD NOT COME TO SCHOOL UNTIL ALL THE LICE
/ EGGS HAVE BEEN REMOVED. IF A CHILD IS FOUND
WITH HEADLICE IN SCHOOL THEY WILL BE
IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM CLASS AND SENT
HOME.
ANY CHILD WHO IS SENT HOME AS A RESULT OF
HEADLICE MUST SEE DR. DR. RANIA or MRS. HALA
FOR A THOROUGH CHECK BEFORE RE-ENTERING
THE CLASSROOM
