A work by Bob Ostertag based on the sampled audio of a boy from El Salvador in
the process of burying his father. High Performance Magazine wrote that “Ostertag’s music slices the boy’s
speech as thin as garlic cut with a razor blade, then blows each instant up into a requiem.”

With more than 20 musical quotations from well-known classical music works—from Debussy’s La mer to
Stravinky’s Rite of Spring—Berio’s Sinfonia is a magnificent work for eight amplified vocal soloists and
orchestra, featuring guests from the Volti Ensemble. Also on the program is Deception by Ben Goldberg, a
Music and Words Composer Fellow, as well as Melinda Wagner’s Concerto for Flute, Strings, and Percussion,
with Tod Brody, flute. There will be a pre-concert talk at 6:00 pm by Carol Hess in Jackson Hall.
