ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Marc Schulthess est un jeune designer diplômé
de Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and
Design. Il vit et travaille entre Londres, Paris et
Berlin.
Sa passion pour le design remonte au temps
où, tout petit, il était tombé en arrêt devant
une vitrine dans laquelle était exposée la lampe
Lucellino d’Ingo Maurer. Depuis, son chemin a
été marqué par d’autres rencontres inspirantes
comme celles d’Arik Levy, de Christophe Pillet,
de Patrik Fredrikson et Ian Stallard pour qui il a
travaillé. Il a lancé son propre studio en 2011.
Son travail est nourri par un vif intérêt pour
l’art – en particulier la sculpture et l’architecture
–, la recherche des possibilités offertes par
les matériaux les plus divers, même les moins
nobles. L’aspect plastique et l’aspect fonctionnel
ne s’excluent pas. Il conçoit le design comme
un laboratoire d’expérimentations où l’on peut
tour à tour chercher à réaliser une production
industrielle ou un travail à la main sur de petites
séries.
Dans le passé il a participé aux salons Pulse et
100% Design. Il vient d’exposer en 2014 à ICFF,
New York, et Maison & Objet, Paris.
Marc Schulthess is a product designer,
graduated from Central Saint Martin’s College
of Art and Design, living and working between
London, Paris and Berlin.
He has been collaborating with designers
such as Arik Levy, Christophe Pillet and
more recently Fredrikson Stallard, and set up
his studio shorthly after in 2011. His field of
investigation is broad with a vivid interest in
arts, especially sculpture and architecture, and
in experimentation with materials even the
most usual.
He has worked on projects for Habitat,
Platinum Guild International, Hirsh Hatton
Garden, Driade and Swarovski. Marc has also
been working as a sourcing consultant for
international brands and is the creative director
of the recently launched homeware label
Untitled Story.
His work has been shown in shows such as
Maison et Objet in Paris and ICFF in New York.
In the past years he exhibited Pulse and 100%
Design in London. His products have been
retailing in Europe and as well as countries such
as the USA or New Zealand.

décoration et de petit mobilier malin créée
par le designer Marc Schulthess, au langage
visuel spécifique, à la frontière de la sculpture.
Les objets occupent une place importante
dans nos intérieurs, ils reflètent nos goûts, nous
accompagnent dans nos déménagements,
jouent des rôles différents au gré de nos
humeurs et de nos besoins, deviennent des
souvenirs de moments importants de notre vie.
C’est à l’utilisateur d’en écrire l’histoire comme
le suggère le nom Untitled Story.
Untitled Story is a new homeware brand created
by designer Marc Schulthess. Objects are part
of our life experience, our life history. The
poetic forms and visual play in the objects of
Untitled Story embrace this idea—create your
own story.

La dernière création d’Untitled Story est un
luminaire. Sa structure sphérique contient en
son centre une source lumineuse diffusant un
halo tel un soleil naissant, d’où son nom Untitled
Sun. On retrouve dans cette lampe la volonté
d’épure et la recherche d’une présence forte,
propres aux produits Untitled Story.
La source lumineuse d’Untitled Sun projette
autour d’elle, grâce à sa forme géométrique,
un jeu d’ombres qui accentue la perception
de l’espace et des caractéristiques de la pièce
où elle est placée. Ainsi l’éclairage provoque la
sensation de se trouver dans un univers qui va
au-delà de l’espace cloisonné de la pièce et en
même temps suscite un sentiment de comfort
créé par le halo rassurant et doux de son coeur
en fusion.
Untitled Sun se décline en deux modèles :
lampe de table ou lampe de sol et suspension.
Ces différentes versions permettent d’intégrer
ce luminaire dans toute sorte d’univers et d’en
faire une utilisation modulable. Grâce à sa
simplicité, Untitled Sun se fond aussi bien dans
des intérieurs contemporains que traditionnels.
La version suspendue contient un anneau sur
un axe horizontal avec deux réflecteurs pour
éviter d’être ébloui par la lumière de l’ampoule.
Les versions de table ou de sol trouvent
facilement leurs places dans les espaces privés
où elles contribuent à créer un univers intime
et rassurant. La suspension, utilisée en nombre,
convient bien pour donner une identité forte
à des boutiques, des restaurants ou des bars,
accrochée au-dessus de tables ou d’un comptoir.
Elle permet alors de creuser des perspectives et
de créer des effets d’optique.

The latest release from Untitled Story is a
range of lighting. As is typical of Untitled Story
products, this range of lights are defined by
their bold and uncluttered visual language. The
spherical structure holds a glowing core and
releases a halo reminiscent of a burning star,
hence it’s name—Untitled Sun.
Due to the geometric shape of Untitled Sun
it’s light source casts a set of shadows into its
surrounding, thus enhancing perception of the
space and the features of the room around it.
This lighting method also gives the feeling of
being beyond the room, almost in a different
universe, creating an expansive environment
whilst the soft glow of its core stays constant.
Untitled Sun comes in two models, a table/
floor version and and pendant version,
making it suitable for various interior settings.
With its natural language it fits well into both
contemporary and traditional environments.
The floor and table light variant suits private
spaces, where they help create a private and
reassuring atmosphere. The pendant light
has a horizontally ring with two reflectors, to
avoid being dazzled by the light source, it’s
also perfect for contract spaces, over tables
or counters, and particularly as part of a set
because of the interplay between optical effect
and perspective that can be achieved.

day depending on the shadows it casts and the movement it makes.”

apparaisse différent le jour et la nuit au gré des jeux d’ombres et de mouvements.

NOMADIC SEDENTARY LIFE

Untitled rail est un portant pour vêtements,
simple à positionner et facile à intégrer dans
n’importe quel espace, sans pour autant sacrifier
son aspect plastique. Il se pose délicatement
contre le mur avec un encombrement minimum
et un angle naturel afin de s’adapter aux espaces
de plus en plus petits dans lesquels nous vivons
et de satisfaire le besoin de mobilité.
Notre époque nous conduit à vivre de
nombreux déplacements entre des villes, des
appartements et même entre les pièces d’une
même habitation. Déménager est devenue
chose courante. Untitled Rail apporte une
solution élégante et facile : on peut changer de
lieux, s’installer très vite et ne pas éprouver pour
autant le sentiment d’une installation précaire
tout en profitant d’un bel objet.
La technique du cintrage de tube utilisée est un
clin d’oeil au travail des designers modernistes
comme Marcel Breuer et Le Corbusier.
Elle permet de créer une pièce de mobilier
qui s’intègre facilement dans le paysage
domestique. Cependant l’aspect plastique,
presque sculptural, permet aussi à cet objet
d’exister au delà de son aspect purement
fonctionnel.
Untitled Rail se démonte en quatre parties afin
de minimiser la taille de son emballage. Il existe
en deux tailles. Le plus grand est idéal comme
portant principal pour ranger sa garde robe,
alors que le plus petit convient parfaitement
pour les couloirs, les entrées, les salles de bains
ou en complément de la version la plus large.

Untitled Rail is a simple and flexible
solution for hanging clothes in reduced space
environments without compromising on
aesthetics. It leans delicately with a natural
angle on the wall, optimizing its footprint to fit
even in small urban interiors.
In our fast-paced world, moving between
cities, flats and even rooms has become part
of everyday life. The Untitled Rail is an easy to
transport solution, elegant and minimal without
creating the feeling of being temporary.
It is produced using tube bending technique
widely used by the Modernists such as Marcel
Breuer and Le Corbusier. This gives it a modern
expression, which feels familiar and comfortable,
however its simplicity and its structure have an
equally sculptural and poetic quality.
The Untitled Rail ships in 4 parts to minimize
shipping volume and is available in 2 sizes. The
large one is best suited as main hanging rail,
while the smaller one is the perfect solution for
a hallway, lobby or that extra hanging space
needed to complement its larger sister. It comes
in blue, white and charcoal.

‘I had to move frequently in the past years and I was unable to find that perfect object needed for occasional or
permanent clothes hanging - I ended up living in boxes. Finally I bought some pipes from the DIY shop and played
with them until I had an object that looked naturally shaped with the balance of being functional and decorative.
The Untitled Rail was born.’

Untitled Mirror est une série de miroirs aux
formes géométriques et graphiques.
Un miroir est un objet qui renvoie le reflet
d’un monde riche en textures, couleurs et
volumes. Il change la perception que l’on
peut en avoir. Untitled Mirrors, grâce à leurs
formes géométriques en volume, redécoupent
l’univers réféchi. De plus, le cadre se réfléchit
dans la glace du miroir, créant un jeu visuel
entre les deux parties de l’objet. En fonction
du point de vue, les formes géométriques sont
déconstruites, explosées en morceaux dans une
valse délicate qui efface les repères.
Marc Schulthess dit « trouver passionnante
l’idée de déconstruire, après lui avoir donné
naissance, un objet inerte qui reflète pourtant
un monde en constant mouvement. Je ne me
lasse pas de contempler les miroirs Untitled
Story car je découvre un nouvel objet à chaque
fois que je les regarde. »
Les miroirs existent dans des formes variées –
hexagonales, circulaires et rectangulaires. Ils
sont disponibles dans cinq couleurs – blanc,
noir, rouge, vert et jaune.

Untitled Mirrors are mirror frames with
geometric and graphic expression. The powdercoated steel frame is offset from the mirror
surface, allowing the mirror to reflect its frame.
Mirrors are often flat and passive objects
reflecting a world defined by texture, volume
and colour. Untitled Mirrors are given life of
their own. The frame surrounding the mirror
prompts an interplay between frame and
reflection. Depending on the viewing angle, the
shape of the frame changes, hovering above the
mirrored surface, creating an abstract reflection
of it’s form.
Marc Schulthess says, “I wanted to deconstruct
and give life to a static object so it more truly
represents the changing world it reflects. The
frame and the mirror play with each other; the
object is never the same when you look at it,
there is always a familiar yet new object to be
discovered.”
The mirrors frames come in 3 geometric shapes
–hexagon, circle and rectangle and in 5 colours:
white, black, red, yellow and green.
