PRACTICE ICE
The Cedar Rapids Ice Arena (CRIA) will be offering practice sessions on Sunday Feb. 9 only. Practice ice will be
available for purchase when the event schedule is posted. Please call to reserve a time, 319-3980100. **Practice session times are subject to change if the competition needs to start earlier.
COMPETITION
Free Skate, Test Track, Artistic, Spins, Jumps, and Compulsory/Short . Eligibility: This event is open to
residents of Iowa. Open to all skaters including United States Figure Skating (USFS) and Ice Skating Institute
(ISI) skaters. Skaters from USFS and ISI shall have passed any one or all of the required tests, but not higher
tests. Skaters holding memberships in both USFS and ISI must skate at highest level attained. For example, a
USFS Preliminary / ISI Free Skate 6 skater must skate at the ISI level. Skaters may skate up one level above
their test level, but not down a level. Level is determined as of the date of registration clos ing.

MUSIC
Skaters are to provide their own music on a CD. CDs and cases must be marked with the skater’s name and
event. Athletes should have a second CD, which can be used as a backup. All CDs should be turned in at the
time of athlete check-in and can be picked up following the competition.
GROUPING & START-TIMES
7-10 days prior to competition, level groupings, and approximate start times will be available on the schedule.
OTHER
Competition schedule and map will be posted on the Iowa Games Web site approximately seven days prior to
competition. *Male and Female skaters will compete separately in the Free Skate event and combined for all
other events.

Skaters may not enter both a W ell-Balanced Free Skate event and a Test Track Free Skate ev ent at the same

Skaters will skate to the music of their choice. Vocal music is permitted at all lev els.
Lev el will be determined by the highest Free Skate test passed. Skaters may compete at the highest lev el they
hav e passed, or “skate up” to one lev el higher.

Skaters must enter at the same level as their Free Skate entry. Skaters will be judged on interpretation of theme
and tempo of their chosen music. Artistic expression and musical interpretation are the major elements
judged. Appropriate costumes are encouraged but are not required. Props may be used if they can be placed
and removed by the skater in 30 seconds and do not present danger to the skater. Skaters may compete at the
highest level free skate they have passed, or skate up to one level higher. Below are the maximum times for
