IJS Checklist for Coaches & Athletes - Singles Skating JUVENILE BOYS & GIRLS FREE SKATE IJS CHECKLIST FOR COACHES & ATHLETES—SINGLES SKATING INTRODUCTION / HOW TO USE THE IJS PROGRAM CHECKLIST The IJS checklist is a tool for coaches and athletes in designing and checking their programs, to ensure that they have meet all of the rules, and are maximizing their points. This checklist does not contain all of the rules and specific requirements. Coaches still must refer to U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook, ISU Technical Panel Handbook, Technical Notifications and ISU Communications. It is the responsibility of the coach to read and understand all rules when putting together programs. The checklist is designed to enable coaches and athletes to record their chosen elements in great detail, and verify their compliance. There is a separate booklet for each level. This one is for JUVENILE SINGLES. The following format applies: Spin and Jump Elements for the short program and free skate All of the spin and jump requirements for the selected level and the repeat rules are listed. The user should record each feature used in the required spins. Lists all Spin Choices Features with criteria if needed for reference. Record jump elements and check against the repeat rules. Step Sequences Record each turn and step. If constructing a Level 4, record the rotational direction of each turn. There is a chart that lists the rotational direction of every turn. Record the rotational directions in the sequence and the use of body movement. Final Checklist The final checklist is the overall tally of the features that can be executed only once per program. JUVENILE Boys & Girls Spin Combina on: With or without change of foot Entry May Fly Minimum eight (8) revolutions for CCoSp or CoSp (for GOE) Minimum two (2) revolutions in each position At least one (1) change of position; two (2) different basic positions A basic position on each foot. Any category of difficult spin variation in a basic position counts once per program (first time it is attempt-‐ ed). A difficult varia on in a non-basic posi on counts once per program in spin combina on only (first me it is a empted). 2. C Must be at least two (2) revolutions in a basic position or a non-basic position before the jump, reach a basic posi on within the first two (2) revolu ons, and held for (2) revolu ons. 3. J Must be at least (2) revolutions in a basic position or a non-basic position before jump, reach a basic position within the first two (2) revolutions, and held for two (2) revolutions. 4. D 5. D 6. Changing from a basic position to a different basic position strength, skill, and control while executing the chang . Includes the preparation and/or the beginning phase of a spin In sit (only from backward inside to forward outside), camel, layback and Biellmann position. Must be held for two (2) revolu ons before and a er the change. 7. Each position must be held for two (2) revolutions. 8. in sit or camel spin A minimum of three (3) revolutions in each directions 9. in camel, sit, layback, or Biellimann position Once the position has been established, a clear increase of speed will be considered a level feature, 10. position or for combination only non-basic position) . c 11. Flying position must be really difficult, e.g.: total sit position in the air, open butterfly position in the air, almost a split position on flying camel entrance. Must achieve a basic position within two (2) revolutions t least three (3) revolutions in each position. Also counts if 12 Reminder: In any spin with a change of foot, the maximum number of features attained on one foot is two (2). 1. For flying spins of both Short and Free Ska ng Programs a) a clear visible jump b) basic landing position reached within the first 2 revs 2) For any spin with a change of foot: at least one basic position on each foot Choreographic Step Sequence Pa ern and steps/turns are op onal, but sequence must fully u lize the ice surface May include jumps If sequence meets minimum standards, it receives a fixed value and is evaluated by judges Must meet minimum standards or will receive no value JUVENILE Boys & Girls, continued FINAL CHECK FOR SPINS No Repeat of: Any difficult varia on category Change of foot executed by a jump Jump within a spin without changing feet Difficult change of posi on on the same foot Difficult entrance into a spin Clear change of edge in sit, camel, or layback All 3 basic posi ons on second foot Both direc ons immediately following each other (camel or sit only) Clear increase of speed Eight (8) revolu ons, max of two (2) mes per program Difficult varia on of flying entry Side to back posi on in layback or combina on spin Other Important Reminders 1.
