Happy New Year! We are making it
through another Rochester January and so far
so good. I learned my lesson about saying
anything good or bad about the weather a few
years back when a comment I made in my
column produced a vengeful reply from the
Snow Gods!
For lots of reasons, I am all hyped
about 2015 for the Webster Chamber of Commerce! I am excited about new initiatives
coming from our strategic planning and very
excited about the coming soon website updates. It feels like we have a handle on all the
health insurance changes and are excited that we can offer insurance to anyone and everyone that comes to the Chamber – we are
prepared on every platform: business, sole proprietor, on exchange, off exchange, individuals and families – and we can do all
our insurance enrollments free of charge to the subscriber.
We have some strong committee work that’s been completed by the Governance and Strategic Planning committees;
great work underway with our Education Committee (Power
Hours) and the Communications and Marketing team (website updates and marketing); and the continued great job done by the
Membership Committee (Business of the Month, BPOY, new membership, retention).
One reason our Chamber is successful is that we have a
group of members that volunteer their time and talent to work on
our committees. One benefit members always tell me they reap
from their committee work is the opportunity to develop and forge
relationships (business and personal) with other Chamber members. That is, of course, on top of the opportunity to be a “mover
and shaker” – getting things done and making positive changes
for the Chamber and for the Webster Community. Are you missing
out? The commitment is usually an hour or two a month but the
rewards are tenfold!
This is the first newsletter that we won’t mail to every
member automatically – we now only mail it to you via USPS if you
have asked to be added to that list. There is no charge to mail it to
you. This initiative reduces the newsletters that need to be printed
and postage to mail them. They just get put directly into the recycle bin anyway, because you read the online newsletter. But, to
those less savvy electronically, please pass along the reminder if
they are wondering what happened to their USPS newsletter.
Our next breakfast is on January 30th and it seems forever
(10 weeks) since our last breakfast – I expect we will get a good
turnout. Please plan on joining us – reconnect – socialize – get a
good program – and don’t forget the famous “pass the mic”. Bring
a business friend – tell them why you like the Chamber and how it
helps you stay connected and network – tell them they can enjoy
the benefits too!

The Small Business Show - SOHO Rochester
2015, is coming up on Wednesday, April 1st from 9 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. This is the 14th year for the only Rochester
business show customized for Small Business owners,
managers, employees and entrepreneurs. The show is
also open to anyone who is looking to start a business.
This is an important event to help companies expand their contacts and see the options to make their
businesses more efficient.
Attendees will see over 100 display booths with a
varied cross-section of companies providing products,
services and resources to small business. Plus you can
network with other attendees.
You'll be able to gain valuable information for
their businesses as well with a variety of free presentations, by some of our sponsors, on small business topics
at the show.
Also attendees can win prizes at the show including airfare for two anywhere in the continental United
States courtesy of VIP Travel Service.

Toys For Tots Fills Two Ford
Escapes
Henderson Family Ford along with several business
partners in the Greater Rochester area, exceed their goal
of filling two, 2015 Ford Escapes with toys for local children
through the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys For Tots program.
Henderson thanked its business partners, employees
customers and Webster neighbors for contributing as well
as the Webster Fire Department for their generous donation of toy trucks. An anonymous donor was also thanked
for giving a large bag of toys.
The toys collected by Henderson Family Ford and
their business partners helped the Toys For Tots program
give 4,000 local kids a great Christmas.
Free Throw Contest
The Webster Knights of Columbus will be holding
their annual Free Throw Championship competition on Saturday, January 24 at Willink
Middle School. Registration will take place
from 1 to 1:30 p.m., with the contest beginning promptly at 1:30 p.m.
Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 may participate.

School Budget Advisory
Committee
If you have always wanted to learn more about the
Webster Central School District budgeting process, please
plan on volunteering as a member of the Budget Advisory
Committee (BAC) for the 2015-16 fiscal year. This important advisory committee assists the district by providing the unique perspective of parents, business owners,
and community members on the budget communication
and process.
There will be four meeting times between January
and April 2015, and each meeting will be one hour long.
Meetings are scheduled for: Thursday, January 29 Thursday, February 12 Thursday, March 12 Tuesday, April 7 A
light dinner will be provided from 5:45 – 6:00 PM, with all
meetings starting promptly at 6:00 PM and ending at 7:00
PM.
