VPT CONDUCTS TRADE MEET IN SRIKAKULAM
The Visakhapatnam Port Trust conducted a trade meet on
March 19, 2014 at Srikakulam along with its BOT Operators

Srikakulam, being the hub for both bulk and container cargo
such as Manganese ore, Coal, Iron ore, Ferro Alloys, Garnet,
Ilmenite etc., there was sizeable guest presence to grace the
occasion from different segments of the trade. VCT took part
in the trade meet to apprise the shipping fraternity about it
being the ideal gateway for container traffic.
The meeting started with a brief introduction about the
facilities of the port that was given by the VPT’s Deputy
Chairman, Mr. G V L Satya Kumar, IRTS. This was followed by
the VCT’s presentation by Mr. Anil Narayanan, VP Operations.
Other private operators operating at Visakhapatnam also
presented their facilities to the gathering. The natural assets,
multifaceted capacities of the Port and its further development efforts were portrayed.
The VCT presentation talked about the world class infrastructure facilities available along with its terminal capacity and
hinterland. The location advantage of vizag was highlighted
and the future expansion plans were also explained. The
gathering felt that the VCT has indeed emerged as a vibrant
gateway for the EXIM players of Srikakulum. The key would
be to develop the potential movements, of Ilmenite, Garnet
Sand and Ferro Alloys.
VPT’s Traffic Manager Dr. K. Satyanarayana mentioned that
the port would organize more trade meets in the Andhra
Pradesh region and in Vizag’s hinterland. There was a
question and answer session following the presentations.
The intention of VPT to popularize the port among potential
customers was thus addressed adequately.

To enhance the bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh,
India has asked to open direct waster routes to Chittagong.
This also helps in the reduction of expenses by the current
mode - of shipping cargoes originating in India, through the
ports of Colombo and Singapore.
The cargo presently moving over the land route now is
through Petrapole – Benapole; which is hampered with heavy
congestion. Bangladesh has potential for trade of different
commodities; and Vizag would be India’s gateway for cargo
movement. India’s imports from Bangladesh had risen steeply
to around $639.33 million in 2012 – 13 compared to $254.66
million in 2009 – 10. As per the Ministry of Commerce and
Industry release the total bilateral trade surged to $5.78
billion in 2012 – 13. This is in spite of the lack of an efficient
connectivity between the two countries.
Chittagong is less than
2 days sailing from
Visakhapatnam; which
in turn is connected to
the entire country by
an efficient railway
system and the Golden
Quadrilateral Highway
network. Vessel operators look forward to a
change in outlook of
the Government and
the trade for the development of coastal traffic, especially in the sector mentioned,
to be able to tap this opportunity.

TABLOID
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj V. Kishore Chandra Deo has once again written to
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, reiterating his demand for making Visakhapatnam the capital of
the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh in view of its inherent advantages.
The increasing popularity of Indian generic drugs in developed markets such as the U.S. has seen the
US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) increase scrutiny of the quality of Indian medicines. The USA
accounts for 30 per cent of India’s pharmaceutical exports of $ 13 billion and is growing at 18-20
percent.
