Using Google Docs in the Classroom
The Teaching Channel has great information and a video they have posted that highlights the benefits of using Google Docs in
the classroom with students for assignments and projects. This would be a great way for our math students to work on their
CCSS activities and project that are now being required in Math 2.0.
Students would be working collaboratively, practicing new 21st century
technology skills and explaining their thinking. All essential skills to be
career and college ready. Click here to watch the video.

Mark Kiker, Director of Information Technology for SIATech has been working on
a grant from Autodesk that would allow us to update the AutoCAD tools we use
and gain access to even more software. This is part of Autodesk’s program for
secondary schools. It provides resources to students for science, technology,
engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) subjects, which includes. Here is an outline
of what we will get FOR FREE (saving at least $100,000+ in upgrade costs and
possibly much more).

Free Autodesk design software
(AutoCAD 2014 and much more)

Free project-based curricula (aligned to
Common Core and ISTE standards)

Free training for teachers

Free certification (up to 5 per site – for
teachers)
The first phase grant covers all California
schools with phase two being a different process for schools outside California. Look for
more updates in February.
