math facts he/she struggles with
Be able to apply math in the real world
Make sure your child is thinking about
math in real life
PARCC Assessments
● What is PARCC?
● What will it look like?
● How will it be different from NJASK?
● When will PARCC assessments be administered?
How Will PARCC Be Different
● For Teachers and Schools:
○ Computer-based testing will boost student engagement and
scores
○ More efficient than pencil-paper
○ Timely data during the year will aid instruction, professional
development
○ Tests will assess the full range of student performance
○ Tests will measure student growth at all levels as well as
measuring proficiency
PARCC Assessments
● Beginning in 2014-2015, PARCC Assessments will
replace NJASK in grades 3-8.
● PARCC Assessments are comprised of two sections:
○ Performance Based Assessment (PBA)-March
○ End of Year Assessment (EQY)-May
PARCC Assessments
Teachers, students, parents, and others can engage with the sample items
using computer-based tools such as drag-and-drop, multiple select, text
highlighting, and an equation builder. PARCC has also released online
tutorials that demonstrate how students will navigate the test, how to use
the computer-based tools, and features that make the test more accessible
for all students, including those with disabilities and English learners.

At Triangle School…
● Are we prepared for PARCC?
○ Full Implementation of CCSS
○ Focus on informational text (non-fiction), citing
text, and critical analysis in ELA
○ Focus on fact fluency and problem solving in
Mathematics
Technology at Triangle
● What about the technology needs that are required
for computer-based testing?
○
○
Our 1 to 1 initiative, our Typing Program, and recent upgrades
to our network systems and the additional purchasing of
equipment has put Hillsborough Township Schools “ahead of
the curve” in the area of PARCC preparedness.
Increased focus on technology skills such as typing, “click &
drag”, and utilizing multiple windows has been a priority our
school.

PARCC Tools/Skills Assessment
This next generation of assessments is designed to measure the full range of knowledge
and skills students need to be career and college ready or on track toward that goal,
through performance based tasks. The assessments will be innovative in design and
more engaging for students. These will include a writing component using keyboarding.
In math, students will have to solve complex problems, show their work, and
demonstrate how they solved the problem using specific skills outlined in http://www.
parcconline.org, and Next Generation Assessments website http://nextgen.apps.sparcc.
org/home
To support parents and educators in their efforts to provide their children and students
with a quality education, PARCC has developed a number of tools and resources
aligned with the Common Core standards and the PARCC assessments.(http://www.
parcconline.org/resources)
To successfully complete these assessments students will need to be able to perform
the following technology skills: Click/tap; select objects, text and area; unselect; scroll;
highlight; drag and drop, and drag and slide; plot points, use electronic calculator,
protractor, ruler and video player; as well as type with a text editor.(http://nextgen.apps.
sparcc.org/home)
PARCC SKILLS TO LEARN
It is important for students to familiarize themselves with testing techniques and
vocabulary. According to PARCC sample tests, students will be asked to “select’,
“drag”, “write”, “complete”, “create”, “enter”, “plot”, “show”, and “explain”
answers using the following technology skills.
