Why PARCC?
◼ New Jersey Department of Education choose to

◼ It is a statewide mandate all public school districts
must assess students using the PARCC. The federal
No Child Left Behind Act requires that students be
tested in English Language Arts and Mathematics on
an annual basis.
◼ Twice a year students will be assessed on attaining
the Common Core State Standards to ensure
students will be college and/or career ready.

Frequently Asked Questions
◼ Is my child(ren) required to take the PARCC assessment?
◼ According to the New Jersey Department of Education:
◼ N.J.A.C. 6A:8-4.1 - …all students at grade levels three through twelve,
and at any other grade(s) designated by the Commissioner pursuant to
6A:8-4.1(a), shall take all appropriate Statewide assessments as
scheduled.
◼ What percentage of NJ children are expected to pass PARCC in
2014-2015?
◼ The NJ Department of Education has not set the proficiency rate for the
PARCC assessment. Therefore, we cannot estimate the percentage of
students who will ‘pass’ the PARCC. However, if the instruction is aligned to
the Common Core State Standards, students should perform at a level
that is in accordance with the standards.
◼ What data do you expect to receive from PARCC that will be available
to teachers and parents?
◼ It is our expectation that the data provided to the district will provide a
‘snapshot’ of student’s progress towards mastery of the standards
assessed.
Frequently Asked Questions
◼ Will PARCC results be part or all of the criteria used to identify
students for advanced/intervention programs?
◼ The district utilizes multiple measures to identify students for
advanced or intervention programs. We will examine the results we
receive from PARCC and determine if they are to be used as a
component in determining eligibility in our programs.
◼ What steps has the district taken to ensure the technology is in
place for PARCC?
◼ We have purchased Chromebooks for students to have access to
throughout the year.
◼ We have conducted and continue to provide professional
development workshops for all teachers focusing on PARCC and
the technological skill sets needed for PARCC.
◼ Upgraded our infrastructure.
◼ Revised our curriculum for Technology, English Language Arts, and
Mathematics to reflect skill sets needed for PARCC and the
Common Core State Standards.

Frequently Asked Questions
◼ What is being done to assist students with disabilities and
English Language Learners?
◼ There is a PARCC Accessibility and Accommodations Manual
available for all parents at http://www.parcconline.org/parccaccessibility-features-and-accommodations-manual
◼ The manual outlines all of the accessibility and
accommodations that will be available to students.
◼ Please contact your case manager with specific questions.
◼ How is PARCC funded?
◼ Similar to the NJASK, HSPA, NJBCT the PARCC is funded
through the New Jersey Department of Education. The district
will not incur the fees associated with the test, however we are
required to ensure the minimum specifications for
hardware/devices are in place to administer the PARCC.
