Souper Good News
The Souper Bowl of Caring is fast approaching. Led by our Youth Group members, we will join with an anticipated
15,000 congregations representing all fifty states and fifty different denominations in giving one dollar each leaving
Mass on Super Bowl Sunday.
Please come prepared to “play” in the Souper Bowl of Caring. Every dollar donated will be sent to a local organization
serving the hungry of our area. Why not attach your dollar to a can of soup and drop it in one of our “soup pots” on that
weekend?
THE BIBLE, THE CATHOLIC FAITH and MORE: Discussion sessions meet on the first and third Thursdays
of the month in the Parish Center from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
Facilitated by Mike Abdalla
Catch Our Spirit… Celebrate Our Catholic Schools
As families register their students for the upcoming school year, consider becoming an Academic Angel!
Your contribution is an investment in a child’s future…the outcomes speak for themselves. Our schools offer an instructional environment that challenges the mind, while inspiring and strengthening the spirit. Please consider supporting our
students for the 2015-16 school year; you can designate the gift as a memorial or in honor of someone special, select a
particular school to receive it, or let us put it where it is needed most. Contributions can be sent to the Diocese of Scranton Scholarship Foundation, 300 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton PA 18503.

OUR SHELVES ARE BARE…
DONATIONS NEEDED FOR OUR FOOD PANTRY…
Our food pantry at the former St. John Neumann School (now Whittier
Annex) is in great need of your donations. We have over sixty families each week
coming to us in need. This means at least sixty boxes of cereal, sixty bottles of juice, sixty boxes of
pasta, sixty cans of vegetables, fruit, etc. are being distributed every week. We really need your
help. If each family would bring at least one item to church each weekend, we should be able to
meet our needs—for now. Thank you for your generosity to us.
-Sr. Janet Jeffers, I.H.M., Catholic Social Services
The Greatest Gift
Do you have a family member or neighbor who cannot leave their home to attend Mass
and receive the Blessed Sacrament? Our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are
here to serve your loved ones by bringing them the gift of Christ Himself, the greatest gift
that can be given. If you know of someone we should be serving, please contact Vince
Klingler at 570-205-5716 or [email protected] for arrangements.
From the Desk of Father Pauselli
During World Youth Day, on July 25, 2013, Pope Francis told us to “never tire of working
for a more just world, marked by greater solidarity.” The Catholic Campaign for Human
Development (CCHD) seeks to defend human dignity and reach out to those who live on
the margins of our society by funding projects that increase justice and express the charity
of Christ toward the poor. Thank you for your contributions to the Catholic Campaign for
Human Development last weekend! Your generous gift will help CCHD end poverty in the
United States through better education, improved housing, and economic development.
Through CCHD and its beneficiaries, we help keep Catholic social teaching alive and carry out Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor… to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free.” (Luke 4:18)
During this week take note of two events: the blessing of throats traditionally done on February 3 will take place after the 12:10PM Mass and at 5:30PM during a prayer service.
On the first Friday, February 6, Mass will be at 12:10PM and lunch will follow in the Parish Center. Hope to see many of you at both evens! Have a great week!
