Over the past month we have been able to supply the Police with some very relevant footage for them to use in their prosecutions.. Thank you to Jo and Tina from the Lagoon View Funeral Home, 3 Korma Lane who reminded us that it was time for the Community Detention Workers to have a clean-up in Korma Lane. Several businesses were keen to also take the opportunity to have clean-up of their own whilst the big rubbish bin was available. The Panmure Historical Society and the PBA, met with the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board and the Ak Council Planning Officers to discuss what would be involved with the removal and relocation of the Loombs Hotel, 8 Kings Rd and the planning needed for the renovation of the old Hotel into the future. Nothing is easy or simple but we are keen to have two positive outcomes of: 1. A new early childhood centre built at 8 Kings Rd. 2. The relocation and renovation of the Loombs Hotel beside the Panmure Stone Cottage. Further steps have been taken in the forming of a greater Tāmaki Business Improvement District with some wonderful support coming from the Tāmaki Redevelopment Company who arranged a Strategic Planning Workshop for us so we could set out some clear goals for the Association. Preparation for a new website is currently underway and this has been financed by Lisa Clark, Lease Solutions Ltd formally the Three Brothers previous owner. In late 2013, the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board commissioned a Customer Survey on the three town centres within their area – Glen Innes, Panmure & Onehunga. The outcomes of the survey were presented to the PBA Board and four building owners and business managers attended as well. Thank you to Gay Williams from the NZ Society of Genealogists and Doug Alexander, Brett Cranston and Bruce McGhie from Scotty’s Accommodation and 145-151 Queens Rd for attending and I have attached the presentation on our website www.panmure.net.nz. We had a good turnout for the 4th Tamaki Business Breakfast with guest speaker’s Debra Lawson, CEO of the Tamaki Redevelopment Company and David Vui–Taliti who is TRC’s Community Development Advisor and is working with ‘getting young people into jobs’. Debra gave an interesting overview of the role of the TRC and the regeneration of the Tamaki area. This long term project is vital to improve the sobering statistics surrounding the high unemployment figures which across Auckland is 8.1% but in Tāmaki is 17%. The regeneration project is a massive joint enterprise and the TRC view a cohesive and connected business community as one of the important partnerships to assist with the delivery of this project. David informed us of TRC’s new career assistance programme called ‘Career Start’ that the TRC are funding but is being run by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce who have be running a comprehensive training programme in South Auckland for the last five years. NEWSLETTER 114 118 The aim of ‘Career Start’ is to provide 28 local Tamaki youth to become work ready and confident, learning a range of skills from CV writing to responding to interview questions. Following the one-week programme, the participants are matched with potential employers and the programme provides support for up to a year. David Vui-Talitu - Community Development Advisor TRC 2014 graduates form ‘career Start” Shaun Connolly, owner of Inbox Solutions Ltd, www.inboxsolutions.co.nz, introduced his business to the attendees. Shaun started his business three yearsago in dirty ,tired premuises at Unit E/124 Felton Matthew Ave. He now owns a bustwarehousing, storage and distribution solutions centre. Shaun is an advocate of the Tamaki area as a great place to set up and conduct business in. Olivia is one of the young students who assist older people on how to use computers, the internet and social media for free. Ruanna Letalu and Jay Basnayake from Work & Income gave a presentation on the products and services that Work & Income can offer employers who are looking for staff. Jay has just assisted the recruitment of over 30 staff for the new Countdown St Johns that has just opened its doors. A big thank you to Chris Beattie owner of Your Neighbourhood Mechanic, Unit C/ 61 Felton Matthew Ave kindly donated a Door Prize of a free Express Service which involves an oil and filter change and 23 point check. We have spent a lot of time this month working along with the Police in ensuring our youths are in school. We have children as young as 9 picking up the bad habit of missing school and getting themselves in to trouble in our town. Once they have established a routine of not attending it is very hard to get them back up to speed when they return which in effect causes even further problems. If you see an unaccompanied youth or group of youths in town during school hours that you think may be truant please call myself or the non-emergency Police Reporting Line (09 3026400) and we will deal with the problem. YOUR SUPPORT TO PREVENT YOUTH CRIME IS IMPORTANT TO US! Unfortunately SHOPLIFTING is still a problem in Panmure.
