Mr. Edward’s seminar students
have won the Quarter 2 Seminar SRI
Challenge. Collectively, these students
raised their lexile reading scores 33.9
points! Our wonderful PTSO will provide the group ice cream sundaes on
February 5th during part of the seminar
period.
All OMS students are participating in a year-long Seminar Challenge for Most Improved SRI Score in pursuit of succeeding with our
school-wide Goal 1 Reading/Language Arts (OMS student achievement
will significantly increase overall as measured by Lexile level and local
summative assessment; and in targeted areas of text analysis and evaluating and extending meaning as measured by Terra Nova 3rd Edition). OMS
students take the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) computer-based
reading test five times a year in order for Language Arts teachers to assess
student reading comprehension levels. After each SRI test, each seminar’s
total new growth will be calculated to determine that quarter’s winning
seminar. Parents, check out your student’s current library book and cheer
them on for Quarter 3 Reading!!

“The Relationship Between Career Fairs & Mental Health" Volume 6 Issue 23

30 Jan 2015
Today marks the end of "Career Week" for students at Osan Mid‐
dle School, with the cumulating event of an all‐day "Career Fair" held in the school gym. In the past weeks, students have been encouraged to not only further explore and expand their understanding of particular careers and occupations, but to al‐
so connect how those career fields relate to their current schoolwork, homework, and the classes they take. This process of connecting eventual outcomes to present day functioning helps to promote emotional well‐being. When students are sup‐
ported in setting realistic short‐ and long‐range goals that can lead to obtainable outcomes, the road ahead often feels brighter and more promising. A positive outlook on the future helps to strengthen student mental health. _______________________________________________________________________
Wellness Wednesday
Many people eat foods with too much solid fats, added sugars, and salt.
Added sugars and fats load foods with extra calories you don’t need. Too
much sodium may increase your blood pressure. Choose foods and drinks
with little or no added sugars. Drink water instead of sugary drinks.
Did you know that there are about 10 packets of sugar in a 12-ounce can of
soda? Choose 100% fruit juice instead of fruit-flavored drinks. 100% natural juice and 100 % fruit juice are two different things. Look at the label
carefully when you purchase juice. Select fruit for dessert. Remember, you
don't have to eat less to be healthy, you just have to eat right!
