In Touch

opedag!”

UNISA implements Three Regions
Literacy Project
Rustenburg – The University of
South Africa (UNISA) is constantly
striving to assist Open Distance
Learning Environment students
with their studies, and to this end
developed an initiative known as
the Three Regions Literacy Project.
The initiative was piloted in the
Western Cape, Gauteng and the
Midlands, and has progressed well
since its launch in January this year.
Students in Rustenburg have
been attending several orientation
sessions by Mr Abdurahman
Saville, Digital Literacies Assistant,
who introduced them to the
project. “We are targeting students
registered for English, Statistics
and Mathematics to participate and
assist us in improving and creating
platforms,” he said.
Implemented in both the electronic
and face-to-face environments, the
project aims to determine existing
literacy practices and diagnose
students’ needs while sourcing,
modifying and developing suitable
learning support resources.
The Gauteng region and Rustenburg
hub are using Pearson’s My-MathLab and My-Stats-Lab software
and Lector-SA (for reading and
writing purposes) while the Western
Cape region is conducting a trial
run of free and specially designed
resources.

our community!

No electricity in
schools- by choice
North West – Schools across the
province are encouraged to “switchoff” for this years’ Earth Hour, which
will be celebrated globally on
Saturday 29 March 2014 (8:30pm
local time). This is the perfect
opportunity to get children involved
in their own planet and thus in their
own future.
The “Earth Hour” initiative has been
a global phenomenon since its
inception in Australia, seven years
ago. All schools are asked to lead
by example and spread the Earth
Hour message, “Try to encourage
a small action in student to lead
a more environmentally friendly
lifestyle.”
To the next generation it should
be more than just symbolically
switching off the lights for an hour
once a year. It is an opportunity
to stop and reflect on the current
condition of our planet and serves
as inspiration for positive action in.
We should stop to consider the
decisions we make in our everyday
life regarding nature conservation,
our food, rubbish, water and energy
use.
Schools can lead by example by
making a commitment to saving
resources through joining and
participating in the WESSA EcoSchools programme. For more
information see:

Rustenburg – All Churches in and
around the greater area of Rustenburg
are requested to join the march from
and to Olympia Park Stadium on
Saturday 5 April ’2014.
This project is an initiative directive
from the Pastors Forum and the
Director of Public Safety and Security
of Rustenburg. The MMC of Safety and
Security Mr.LKgaladi and the Director
of Public Safety and Security Mr.SS
Kotsedi approached the churches –
and are appealing to the community to
join hands in this initiative.
“Make a stand for the KINGDOM of
GOD against the spirit of Destruction
and Divination. We need your support,”
Pastor Danie Prinsloo of Oasis of Hope
Ministries explained. “The Director
Mr. Kotsedi called on all Spiritual
leaders and their churches to help the
Government, and said they can’t do it
without them,” Pastor Danie Prinsloo
shared.

Is Mapule the next Mrs SA?
To walk away with the coveted crown of
Mrs South Africa, the chosen lady has to
be married, sophisticated and beautiful,
inside and out. She has to be somewhere
between twenty-five and fifty and have a
passion greater than herself. She also has
to be ambitious, have real substance and
have the wish to succeed.
If you think Mapule Malokane is that
woman, vote for her by sending an SMS
with “Mapule” to 35959. SMS’s cost R3
and goes towards people living with
cancer. You can follow her on Facebook
as well @MrsSA2014.
