The collaborative began to take shape approximately 4 years ago, with the appointment a Joint Executive Director, Local Site Directors, and a Joint Chief of Anatomic Pathology. An Executive Steering Committee was established to guide the further development of the collaborative, with a vision to expand the model of “joint leadership” to the other Medical Laboratory Chiefs. Executive Steering Committee The Executive Steering Committee will meet quarterly and continue to guide the development of the collaborative. The Executive Steering Committee is comprised of: Michael Young, Sunnybrook (Chair) Joint Chiefs of: Dr. Andy Smith, Sunnybrook -‐
Anatomic Pathology Dr. Charlie Chan, UHN -‐
Haematology / Transfusion Medicine Dr. Barry Guppy, Lakeridge -‐
Clinical Biochemistry Dr. Danielle Martin, WCH -‐
Microbiology Dr. Richard Hegele, U of T Brad Davis, Executive Director Labs Dr. Sylvia Asa, Interim Medical Director Single Laboratory Management Team Over the next few years we will be conducting formal selection processes for all Medical Leadership positions, but this will take time and in the meanwhile we need to move forward with establishing a single laboratory management team. As such we are pleased to announce the following individuals: • Mr. Brad Davis, Executive Director • Dr. Sylvia Asa, Interim Medical Director (pending formal search process) • Dr. Nadia Ismiil & Dr. Runjan Chetty, Interim Co-‐Joint Chiefs, Anatomic Pathology (pending formal search process for a single Joint Chief) • Dr. Marciano Reis, Interim Joint Chief, Haematology & Transfusion Medicine (pending formal search process) • Dr. Andrew Simor & Dr. Tony Mazzulli, Interim Co-‐Joint Chiefs, Microbiology (pending formal search process for a single Joint Chief) • Dr. Eleftherios Diamandis, Interim Joint Chief, Clinical Biochemistry (pending formal search) Single Point of Operational Reporting In order to facilitate effective leadership and communications, and to foster collaborative decision making we have restructured our regular meetings with the Laboratory Management Team, such that we will not be having individual hospital meetings. Going forward the Laboratory Management Team will meet on a monthly basis with a subset of the Executive Steering Committee (the VPs with operational responsibility for laboratories in each partner hospital – Michael Young, Charlie Chan, Danielle Martin, and Barry Guppy), and operational issues will be addressed from a collaborative perspective. We believe that the announcement of a single laboratory management team, and a single point of operational reporting compliments the ongoing strategic oversight of the Executive Steering Committee and will further advance the implementation of the collaborative. 2
