WFOL Annual Fruit Tree Sale
The Winters Friends of the Library will hold the annual Fruit Tree
Sale on Saturday, March 7th from 9 am until the trees are sold
out. The tree sale will be held in the parking lot on Railroad Avenue
in downtown Winters between Baker and Edwards Streets. Bare
root trees are $10 each and citrus trees are $25 each. The bare
root trees are donated by Sierra Gold Nursery, Yuba City and the
citrus trees are donated by Four Winds Growers, Winters. Bare
root trees will include cherry, peach, nectarine, plum, almond,
pomegranate, apple, and olive. Proceeds will be used to benefit
programs of the Winters Library and to expand the library collections. For more information please call 530-795-3617.
Attention All Adult Swimmers
Adult Lap Swim will start up again starting April 1st. The pool will be
open for evening and weekends only for Adult Lap Swim. Evening
swim will be from 6pm-7:30pm, and weekends 9am-10:30am.
March Chamber Mixer
The Winters Chamber of Commerce March mixer will be held on
Monday, March 9, 5:30 pm-7 pm at Steady Eddy’s Coffee House, 5
East Main Street and will be co-hosted by R & V Screen Printing
with the featured Service Organization being the Winters Theatre
Company. Mixers ask a suggested donation of $10 for food, drink
and a raffle ticket. Mixers are open to all who wish to attend.
Spring Run Off 10K
Attention all runners! Winters PTA will be hosting their Spring Run
Off 10K March 22nd. The 10K walk/run begins at 8:30am and
registration will be $35. There will also be a kids’ 1 mile run and a
virtual run. The kids’ 1 mile run starts at 8am and registration is
$15. The virtual run is for those who are unable to attend but would
like to still support our local schools. All proceeds will go to benefit
Winters Elementary Schools. To learn more go to

Dodge Ball Tournament
Come out for a day of fun dodging balls. Sign-ups taking place now
and end March 3rd. $5 per player with no limit on the amount of
players per team! The tournament will take place Saturday March
7th in the Winters High School Gym at 10am. All proceeds will go to
Interact (student version of rotary) and the Camellia Project– a
foster youth program that helps youth transition to the adult world.

Senior Health Fair
On Saturday April 25th at Youth Day the Winters Senior Foundation
will be sponsoring a Senior Health Fair located at 107 Main Street
at Dr. Davis’ Office. Come get your blood pressure checked and
other information offered to better your health!
After School Program News
A huge thanks to Winters High Senior, Loren Tolley, and Winters
High Music Teacher, Rebecca Ciardelli, for providing the students
in the After School Program at Shirley Rominger with ukulele lessons which culminated in a wonderful performance in January.Registration is coming up in May.

Youth Day 2015– Youth of the Decades
Come kick off the 79th annual “Youth Day” festivities with the third annual rubber duck race in Putah
Creek.. The annual rubber duck race helps raise
funds to support all of the “Youth Day” activities so
with your support we can continue to grow “Youth
Day.” There will be hot dogs, chips, and drinks at
the duck race followed by a family movie in the
park. Terry Sheets Band will also performing on
Saturday in the Rotary Park.
For those who would like to have a duck in the
race Individual ducks will be $10 each or you can
get a Quack Pack 6 for $50 or a Flock 12 for $100.
As a supporter your logo or business name will be
displayed on the banners, t-Shirts, signs, and in the
Winters Express. Each supporter will also have a duck
in the race.

Contractors State License Board Reaches One Million
The nation’s largest industry reached a milestone
in California in January as the Contractor’s License
Board (CSLB) issued its one-millionth contractor’s
license.
The CSLB was created and issued its first license
in 1929, with the support of the state’s construction
industry, so the public would be protected from
irresponsible contractors.
“This milestone says a lot about the resiliency of
the construction industry,” said CSLB Registrar
Cindi Christensen. “Despite ups and downs in the
marketplace, this industry is a major reason the state
has thrived, especially during the past century, and
why California is the envy on many other states and
countries.”
There currently are about 284,000 licensed contractors in California, in more than 40 different licensing

New Sewer Rates Now in Effect
Starting the first of this year, sewer rates for residential accounts are charged based on winter water
use. The city is using an average of each account's
lowest three months’ water use from 2011 through
2013 as a basis for the monthly sewer charge. The
charge will be the same each month throughout
2015. Part of the fee will be a $45.00 flat rate, and
the remainder will be based on $1.62 per unit of
water used in the average of those lowest-use
months. For 2016 bills next year, the basis will be
the average of this winter’s lowest three months’
use. Homeowners reducing their water use this
winter can see lower sewer bills in 2016.
We used 16,816,536 gallons in January of this
year (22,482 units) and this is much less than any
January since we started measuring use in 2012. The
reduction is 22 percent over last year and 19 percent of
the January average. Winters used less water in 2014
than in the past ten years.
Average residential water use in January was 6,483
gallons, (8.67 units), with 344 homes showing water
leaks. The number of leaks is about ten percent less
than when we first started metering in 2012, which
means there are still many opportunities for residents
to cut their bills by repairing leaks. The city has a
program to provide a limited bill credit for customers
who promptly repair leaks, in case a pipe leak caused
a sudden increase in their bill.
Winters Chamber of Commerce Agri-tour at Martinez Orchard
The Winters Chamber of Commerce will hold the
first Agri-tour of 2015 on Wednesday, March 25, at
Martinez Orchards. The day will begin at Steady
Eddy’s Coffee House located at 5 E. Main Street at
9 a.m. Participants will enjoy a beverage and pastry
of choice. At 9:30 a.m. the bus will be boarded and
participants will be escorted to Martinez Orchard. The
tour is an all-inclusive price of $50. Wear shoes suitable for walking. For more information or to register for

Help Stop Bullying!!
Did you know that you can stop bullies? Bullies are
a big problem for kids, but you have the power to
stop them. Bullies usually threaten or hurt other kids
when no adults are around to see them do it. They
know that if an adult did see them, the adult would
stop the bully and help the victim.
When you see someone being bullied, remember
the tips below and help stop a bully.
• Speak up. Tell the bully what you think of what’s
going on. By saying, “that’s not funny, let’s get out
of here” or something similar, you can help stand up
for another kid.
• Be a friend. When kids go somewhere without their
friends, they are more likely to get picked on by a bully.
If you see someone being picked on, even if you don’t
know the person, be a friend and ask the kid to walk
away from the bully with you.
• Get an adult. If you see someone being bullied, get
an adult. Either tell the adult what is going on or ask
the adult to talk to the kid who is being bullied.

Venta de árboles frutales anual WFOL
Los amigos de la biblioteca de Winters realizará la venta anual de
árboles frutales el sábado 7 de marzo de 9:00 hasta agotan los
árboles. La venta de árboles se llevará a cabo en el estacionamiento en la Avenida del ferrocarril en el centro de Winters entre las
calles Edwards y Baker. Los árboles de raíz desnuda son $10 cada
uno y cítricos son $25 cada uno. Los árboles de raíz desnuda son
donados por el vivero oro Sierra, Yuba City y los árboles de cítricos
son donados por cuatro vientos cocaleros, Winters. Los árboles de
raíz desnuda incluirá cereza, melocotón, nectarina, ciruela, almendra, Granada, manzana y oliva. Las ganancias se utilizarán para
beneficio de los programas de la biblioteca de Winters y ampliar las

Competencia de Primavera 10K
¡Atención todos los corredores! Winters PTA serán el anfitrión de
este corrido 10K el 22 de marzo. El 10K caminata/carrera empieza

Torneo de Dodge Ball
Ven a un día de diversión esquivando pelotas. Inscripciones tomando lugar ahora y terminar el 3 de marzo. $5 por jugador sin límite
en la cantidad de jugadores por equipo. El torneo llevará a cabo el
sábado 7 de marzo en el gimnasio de la escuela secundaria de
Winters a las 10:00am. Todo lo recaudado irá a interacción (versión
estudiante de Rotary) y el proyecto de camelia – un programa de

Vamos a dar inicio a las festividades de "La juventud"
anuales 79 con la tercera carrera anual de pato de goma
en Putah Creek... La carrera anual de pato de goma ayuda
a recaudar fondos para apoyar todas las actividades del
"Día de la juventud" para que con su apoyo podemos
continuar creciendo "Día de la juventud". Habrá perritos
calientes, papas fritas y bebidas en la raza de pato seguido
de una película familiar en el parque. La banda de Terry
hojas será también realizar el sábado en el parque de
Rotary.
Para aquellos que les gusta tener un pato en la carrera
Individual patos será $10 cada una o puedes conseguir un
graznido de 6 por $50 o un rebaño de 12 por $100.
Como seguidor de tu logotipo o negocio nombre aparecerá en
banderas, camisetas, carteles y en el periódico de Winters.
Cada seguidor contará además con un pato en la carrera.

Licencia de contratistas estaal alcanza 1 millón
La industria más grande de la nación alcanzada un hito en
California en enero como del mesa de contratista y licencia
(CSLB) emitió su millonésima la licencia de contratista.
El CSLB creó y publicó su primera licencia en 1929, con el
apoyo de la industria de la construcción del estado, para
que el público estuviera protegido de contratistas irresponsables.
"Este hito dice mucho sobre la resistencia de la industria de
la construcción," dijo CSLB registrador Cindi Christensen.
"A pesar de los altibajos en el mercado, esta industria es una
de las principales razones el estado ha prosperado, especialmente durante el siglo pasado, y por eso California es la
envidia de muchos otros Estados y países."

Nuevas tarifas de alcantarillado en efecto
A partir del primero de este año, las tasas de alcantarillado
para cuentas residenciales pagan basado al uso del agua
en el invierno. La ciudad es usando un promedio de cada
cuenta menor uso del agua de tres meses de 2011 hasta el
2013 como una base para el cargo mensual de alcantarilla.
El cargo será el mismo cada mes durante todo el año
2015. Parte de la cuota será una tarifa plana de $45,00, y
el resto se basará en $1,62 por unidad de agua utilizada en
el promedio de los meses de menor uso. Para 2016 cuentas el próximo año, la base será el promedio de uso bajo
tres meses de este invierno. Los propietarios reduciendo
su uso de agua este invierno pueden ver inferiores facturas
de alcantarilla en 2016.
Utilizamos 16, 816,536 galones en enero de este año
(22.482 unidades) y esto es mucho menos que cualquier
enero ya empezamos a medir uso en 2012. La reducción es
de 22 por ciento respecto al año pasado y 19 por ciento de la
media de enero. Inviernos utilizan menos agua en 2014 que en
los últimos diez años.
El uso del agua residencial promedio en enero fue 6.483
galones, (8,67 unidades), con 344 casas muestra fugas de
agua. El número de fugas es alrededor del 10 por ciento
menos que cuando empezamos la medición en 2012, que
significa que todavía hay muchas oportunidades para que los
residentes reducir sus facturas de reparación de fugas. La

La cámara de comercio de Winters celebrará la primera

Martinez. El día comenzará en Steady Eddy Coffee House
situado en 5 E. Main Street en 9:00 los participantes
disfrutarán de una bebida y pastelería de elección. De 9:30
a ser abordado al autobús y los participantes serán escol-
tados a la Huerta de Martínez. La gira incluye precio de 50
dólares. Utilizar calzado adecuado para caminar. Para obtener

¡Ayudar a la parada de intimidación!!
¿Sabías que puedes parar a intimidadores? Los intimidadores son un gran problema para los niños, pero tú tienes
el poder de detenerlos. Los matones generalmente amenazan o daño a otros niños cuando no hay adultos alrededor
verlos hacerlo. Ellos saben que un adulto les vio, el adulto
no dejaría que el abuso llevaría a cabo y ayudaría a la
víctima.
Cuando ves a alguien maltratando, recuerda los consejos a
continuación y ayudar a detener a un intimidador.
• Hable. Dile al intimidador qué piensas de lo que está
pasando. Diciendo: "eso no es gracioso, vámonos de aquí"
o algo similar, usted puede ayudar a defender a otro niño.
• Ser un amigo. Cuando los niños ir a algún lugar sin sus
amigos, son más propensos a ser molestados por un intimidador. Si ves a alguien siendo elegido, incluso si no conoces a la
persona, es un amigo y pedir al niño alejarse con usted.
• Obtenga un adulto. Si ves a alguien maltratando, conseguir a
un adulto. Dile que el adulto lo que está pasando o pedirle al
adulto que hable con el niño que está siendo intimidado.
