The 2014 IHSGCA Coaches Clinic was a huge
success. Over the past several weeks, we’ve
received a great deal of positive feedback about
the direction this clinic has taken over the past
few years. Over 115 coaches were in attendance
to hear some of the best coaches and contributors in the Midwest.
Warsaw Boys Coach, Ben Barkey, made an outstanding presentation regarding program development and culture. In addition, Vince Lazar
from Depauw University brought a plethora of
short game knowledge and drills to our clinic.
A huge “Thank You” to Ryan Lambert of the
IGA for making a rules presentation that affords
our spring coaches in attendance to avoid the
time consuming task of doing the IHSAA online rules quiz. This presentation also allowed
for Q & A and feedback about situations we’ve
all encountered during tournament play.

Our featured presenters where Missy Ringler
(Edgewood HS/UNLV) and Men’s Golf Coach
at Illinois, Mike Small. Both agreed that a panel
discussion would work best for them and over
an hour was spent answering and expanding on
the various questions that our coaches bought
forth. Coach Small and Coach Ringler were
outstanding in offering advice and counsel regarding how they view team golf and what has
led to their own program’s success.

2014 Girls State Finals Review
Unfortunately for the high school girls of Indiana, the 2014 IHSAA
state finals were played under tremendously poor conditions. But
fortunately for the girls, they were playing at Prairie View Golf Club in
Carmel, IN. With Doc O’Neal and his staff leading the way, Prairie View
rolled out the red carpet and put on a fantastic show over two days in
early October.
The golf course played extremely difficult, with wind and record cold
temperatures; it was truly a “test” of golf. But over two days, the best
team in the state was identified as Evansville North HS prevailed by
firing 646 and outdistancing Martinsville by 6 shots.
Junior Cherise Otter (Bloomington South) was the 2014 overall
medalist with 69/75 total to win by 7 shots.

IHSAA Change of Line-Up Form Revision
The IHSGCA is pleased to announce that through
a collaborative effort, the IHSAA will alleviate the
change of line-up form for transitions from sectional to regional and regional to state finals. This has
caused many issues over the years, and the IHSAA
has agreed that the time for eliminating this
cumbersome task has passed. Note: A coach will
still have to submit a change of line-up form for the
second day of state finals if they wish to alter line-ups
due to substitute or finish from day one.
