Types of classes
• Lectures
• Professors teach theory, students listen / no maximum number of participants / no
prior application or registration / exam at the end of class
• All sessions listed are mandatory (particularly if it is a class taught in one term only)
• Exercises/tutorials/”Übungen”
• Part of the lecture / students apply theory to practice / generally no maximum number
of participants / generally no prior registration
• Generally one time slot is selected (unless stated otherwise on chair webpage)
• Seminars and soft skills classes/”Schlüsselqualifikationen”
• More interactive / prior application with the chair / limited number of participants /
group work, case studies, etc.
• All sessions listed are mandatory (particularly if a class is taught in one term only)
• Classes taught by other departments = contact respective international coordinators

Materials for Lectures, Tutorials etc.
• Course material is generally accessible on/via chair websites; sometimes a “Skript”
(summary of class) can be purchased during the first lecture (about 5 - 10 €).
• Usually the professor will announce during the first session where to find course material
for lecture and tutorials
• Some professors upload the material on their websites. You can find all chairs’ websites on
the SBE Münster website - as mentioned before – or google the course name, the professor

Log in with your ZIV ID and password
Search for the course by typing in the name of the lecture
Register your name for the course (not equivalent to exam registration!)

• ERASMUS universities generally require a Learning Agreement, data sheet, etc.
• Contacts are either the IRC or International Office
• Proof of attendance:
• Generally only seminars (and some exercises) have a rollcall
• If students are required by their home universities to provide a proof of attendance
they should present their home university’s form and have the professor sign after
each class.
• Credit is only given if the class (with all exams, case studies, etc.) is successfully
completed

TAN list and Transcript of Records
• Based on details given/sent to Valerie Säger: generation of a TAN list
= password to FlexNow database
• Check whether you have been properly registered for your exams
• Generate your Transcript of Records (at the end of your stay)
= German, English, with or without failed exams, online verification code
• Please sign the attendance list and give us your matriculation number – alternatively, send
us details via mail immediately
• TAN lists along with instructions will be handed out/sent to you later
• If you do not pick up your TAN list you will thus not be able to generate your transcript –
as no transcripts will be sent to your home international offices from the IRC side!

„NRW Semesterticket“
• Valid on all regional carriers throughout North Rhine-Westphalia/NRW; neighboring
communities in Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Netherlands
• Busses, subway and tram can be used all over NRW and in the city center of Osnabrück.
• The train ticket is valid only for regional trains such as the RegionalExpress RE and the
RegionalBahn RB. It is not valid for intercity trains (InterRegio IR, InterCity IC and
InterCityExpress ICE) or in first-class compartments
• Trips beyond the geographical limits of the Semesterticket: you must buy a ticket for the
rest of the trip before boarding the train

How to use the WiFi
• To set up your WiFi, you have to follow the instructions on the ZIV website:

• Requirements:
 You have a WiFi compatible terminal device at your disposal (laptop, smartphone,
tablet) which supports the WPA standard
 You have your ZIV ID and a password for network access (either stated in your
registration letter or to be obtained from ZIV, Einsteinstr. 60)
• The password for network access needs to be set in the users’ portal MeinZIV.
• Instructions are available for various operating system/platforms
• ZIV staff members are also available at the DigiLab at the University Library (ULB)
