Titel
Research Assistant: Model Predictive and Feedforward Control for Wind Turbines
Einsatzort
Allmandring 5B
70569 Stuttgart
Deutschland
Beschreibung
SWE’s research group “Control, Optimization and Monitoring” is working on the improvement of
the operation of wind turbines through novel control strategies to reduce loads and increase the
energy yield of a wind turbine. The main focus here is the use of wind preview measurements from
lidar systems. A collective pitch feedforward controller was successfully tested worldwide for the
first time by SWE and NREL in previous projects. This concept shall be extended within the
German joint research project “ANWIND” to a multivariable feedforward controller using
additionally the generator torque as feedforward control input, forming a challenging control
problem due to the nonlinear behavior of wind turbines. The availability of a predictive
measurement of the main disturbance to the system also suggests the use of Nonlinear Model
Predictive Control (NMPC) algorithms. The partners aim for the realization of a lidar-based
NMPC within the project (3 years).
What we offer to the applicants:
An internationally recognized, young and motivated team of researchers.
A versatile and interdisciplinary job and the possibility to pursue a PhD.
Contacts to international research institutions and companies in the field of wind energy.
Additionally to the research activities, a support of SWE’s teaching activities (lectures and
supervision of student theses) as well as other organizational tasks is part of the position.
Anforderungsprofil
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
A Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in the area of control, aerospace or wind
energy engineering or an equivalent course of studies with extensive knowledge in
control.
Basic knowledge in wind energy and structural dynamics is beneficial.
Creativity, analytical skills, and perseverance for pursuing a PhD.
Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English as well as German are
necessary.
The University of Stuttgart strives to increase the number of females in science and encourages
women to apply. Challenged applicants with equal qualification will be given preference.
