The teaching part encompasses four hours per week. The department for Medical Microbiology houses the German National Reference Laboratory for Multidrug-resistant Gram-negative Pathogens. The group is working on the molecular and biochemical characterisation of antibiotic resistance mechanisms. The main focus lies on carbapenem resistance mechanisms, including the genetic characterisation of resistance genes. It is planned to supplement the established techniques with whole genome sequencing analyses. Further research subject of the deparment are the analysis of the microbiota in context with respiratory tract infections or neurodegenerative diseases and the analysis of virulence factors in human-pathogenic staphylococci. Anforderungsprofil Applicant should be legally qualified to practise medicine in Germany. Experience in resistance testing according to EUCAST and in analysis of resistance and virulence mechanisms with molecular techniques are required, as well as basic knowledge of bioinfomatic tools for DNA sequence analysis and/or microbiotia sequence data analysis. Experiences in research, self-reliant realisation of research projects, aquisition of thirdparty funds and competence in administrative aspects are desirable. The department cooperates with a diagnostics institute, offering the opportunity to qualify as a german medical specialist for microbiology, virology and infection epidemiology. The head of the department fulfills the complete criteria for qualification supervision.
