Hello Citizen's of Omitama! Jeff's Journal Vol.19 I hope you are all doing good in the beginning of the new school and work term as well as taking some time to be outdoors to enjoy the cherry blossoms. Thank you to everyone who has invited me to go out to your neighborhood and organization gatherings to view the beautiful cherry blossoms. I always have a great time visiting with you. Besides going to the local gatherings I was able to attend my very good friends wedding and also took a trip to Yokohama to experience an Indian Holi Festival. The wedding that I attended was very beautiful and I really enjoyed the experience. Congrats again to the newly weds. I wish you the best in your life journey together. The Holi Festival in Yokohama was amazing. I am so happy that I was able to attend it with one of my Indonesian friends. I encourage everyone to attend some kind of international function if you have the free time. It is a great way to learn about a different culture as well as meet new friends. During Golden Week I will be visiting Gunma Prefecture, the Kasama Pottery Festival, and a few other places. I'm looking forward to these last small adventures before I return home to the United States. I will also be at the Tamari Festival on May 22nd. We will be having a Wizard of Oz themed booth, since the setting was in Kansas and that is where Abilene is located. We will be doing a variety of activities and you will also get the chance to win a prize for a minimal cost. Space will be limited, but please come if you can. I look forward to seeing you there! Last, but not least I would like to express my sympathy about the latest massive earthquake that hit Japan. It is always sad when these natural disasters strike and cause so many casualties and destruction. My thoughts go out to all of those involved and to those of you who have loved ones or friends in the area. We must remember that, "We can't stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge so many lives would't have to be lost if there is enough emergency preparedness." Until Next Time, Jeffrey Haaga ▲ 桜とともに（桜川） ▲ 愛宕山にて桜が咲き、外出したくなるこの季節、学校や職場での新年度のスタートはいかがだったでしょうか？私を桜の花見に誘ってくれた方々に感謝します。皆さんと外出するといい思い出ばかりです。地域行事に参加する一方、親友の結婚式への参加や、インドのホーリー祭を体験しに横浜へ行ってきました。結婚式はとても美しく素晴らしい経験をさせてもらいました。改めて新婚のお二人に、最良の伴侶との素晴らしい旅路のスタートに当たり祝福の言葉を送ります。また、横浜のホーリー祭は多くのインドネシアの友達と参加しとても楽しく過ごしました。皆さんにはこのような国際的な行事にぜひ参加されることをお勧めします。異文化体験や新たな友達を作るとてもいい機会となることでしょう。　ゴールデンウィーク中には群馬県や、笠間陶炎祭などに行きたいと思っています。自分の故郷であるアメリカに帰る前の最後の小旅行を楽しみにしています。また 5 月 22 日に行われる玉里コミュニティまつりも楽しみにしています。我が故郷アビリン市にあるカンザス州を舞台にした、オズの魔法使いをテーマにしたブースを出します。いろいろなゲームをして、景品が当たるチャンスもありますよ。皆さんと会場でお会いできることを楽しみにしています。最後に熊本を襲った大地震について書かせてもらいたいと思います。いつも自然災害により多数の死傷者や被災の様子を見ると悲しくなります。被災された方や、友人がいたり、その地を愛する方々がいたりすることを思うと、いてもたってもいられません。私たちは自然災害を止められないですが、災害への備えをした上で、知恵を出し合って、手を携えればたくさんの命を失わずに済むかもしれないということを皆さんと共に心に刻みたいと思います。平成 28 年５月 12 日　広報おみたま 10
