Hello Citizen's of Omitama! Jeff's Journal Vol.18 I first want to start by congratulating the 3rd grade students from Junior High School in Omitama. It was an honor to help teach you these past two years. You all are wonderful and I know you will go on to do great things. I have three pieces of advice for your future that I too have learned throughout my life. The first is to continue to work hard. You can learn many things and become the best you can with a little effort. In America, we have an acronym, YOGOWYPI. It stands for, You Only Get Out What You Put In. So for example, if you practice hard at something you will get good at it and if you don't then it will be more difficult to be successful at it. The second piece of advice is to try new things. First you will never know if you like something unless you try it. Second you can make new friends that you might not usually hang out with. Last it is good for you to start stepping out of your comfort zone. You will have to sometime in your life so why not start now. My last piece of advice is to just have fun. If you don't then it will be more difficult for you to do the things you want. Plus, time flies when you are having fun. Now for my other students. To the new first grader: Welcome to our Junior High School! I look forward to getting to know you. Next congratulations to the new second and third graders. I look forward to continuing to teach you for my last four months here. I am also looking forward to watching you excel in your different activities. You all are very special to me and I look forward to seeing you around the school. As some of you may know, my family came to visit Japan for two weeks in March. They had a wonderful time and now see why I love Omitama so much. I was very happy to show them my second home. Thank you to all who helped me out during their stay. We enjoyed trips in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, and around Ibaraki. Thank you all again. Until Next Time, Jeffrey Haaga 11 平成 28 年４月７日　広報おみたま最初に市内の中学３年生へのお祝いの言葉から始めたいと思います。この２年間生徒たちに教えることができたことはとても誇れることです。いつも模範となる素晴らしい生徒たちばかりでした。私の人生で学んだことから３つのアドバイスをさせてもらいたいと思います。１つ目は勤勉であり続けることです。小さなことでも多くを学び吸収して大きくなれます。アメリカでは ‘YOGOWYPI’ という言葉があり、「得たものからしか力を出せない。」という言葉があります。つまり、何かに打ち込みうまくなることはできるが、後にすると難しくなるようなことだと思います。２つ目は挑戦し続けることです。まず、挑戦せずには何も生まれません。また挑戦によって普段出会えない新しい友人を作ることができます。挑戦は、自分の世界から一歩踏み出すいい機会だと思います。それぞれの人生のもてる時間ですので挑戦しない理由はないと思っています。最後の３つ目は楽しむことです。楽しめなければしたいことも難しく感じますし、さらに楽しめれば光陰矢のごとしです。また新１年生に送る言葉として、中学への進学おめでとうございます。これから皆さんと知り合えることを楽しみにしています。そして新２・３年生へ。残る４か月のここでの時間が楽しみです。皆さんがそれぞれの部活で活躍する姿を見ることも楽しみです。皆さんは私にとって特別な存在で、学校で会えることを楽しみにしています。知っている方もいると思いますが、私の家族が３月に 2 週間ほど滞在しました。素晴らしい時を過ごし、私が小美玉を大変愛する理由を分かってもらいました。私の第二の故郷を見せることができてとても幸せです。このとき手伝ってくれた方々に感謝します。お陰様で私の家族は東京、横浜、京都、そして茨城を満喫することができました。
