Unbestechlich, unabhängig, streng und professionell 2015-06 BEST OF Classicoerhalt gesichert Das Chianti Classico scheint die Absatzkrise toskanischer Rotweine nicht nur unbeschadet überstanden zu haben, es wirkt sogar stärker denn je. Das liegt nicht zuerst an der neuen Spitzenkategorie “Gran Selezione”, von der wir einige erstklassige Weine probiert haben, aber auch solche, denen der Ehrgeiz ihrer Macher etwas zu stark anzumerken war. Viel mehr hat sich die Befürchtung, die “Gran Selezione” würde sich auf die Riserva negativ auswirken und vor allem die Annata noch weiter ausbluten, überhaupt nicht bestätigt. Gerade die Annata haben wir noch kaum je so zuverlässig auf hohem Niveau erlebt; die Zahl der Weine, die für ihr Geld außergewöhnlichen Genuss bieten, war womöglich noch nie so hoch. Dabei bleiben auch alkoholstarke Vertreter oft erstaunlich elegant und trinkfreudig. Man hat also erkannt, worum es geht, und weiß besser denn je, wie man es macht. Wirklich leichte und dabei rurale Chianti alten Stils gibt es im Classico hingegen praktisch nicht mehr, dafür muss man auf die Satellitenapellationen ausweichen. One of the reasons for this may lie in the new top-echelon category “Gran Selezione”, of which we tasted a number of outstanding wines, although there were also some examples that revealed the over-ambitious nature of their producers. One can say that the fear, “Gran Selezione” would have a negative impact on Riserva, and would further dissipate the Annata, has not been confirmed. Indeed, we have probably never seen the Annata wines at such a consistently high standard, and the number of wines that provide exceptional please at a reasonable price was probably also never as high. It is interesting to note that even wines with a high level of alcohol are often surprisingly approachable and elegant. It appears the producers have realized what the market expects, and they know better than ever how to produce such wines. On the other hand, the Classico category today includes virtually no light, rural, old-style Chiantis – if you are looking for these, you will have to search in the satellite appellations.
