This Quick Guide: W-Fragen helps you remember the meaning of the main Fragewörter
by using a Vorlage, a model sentence. For each word, memorize the sentence (or question)
and use the sentence as a reference for future learning.
Wer is deceiving because it looks like the English “where,” but it actually means “who.” So
when you memorize the rhyming question Wer ist er?, you can remember that Wer refers to
a he, a person, thus it must mean “who.”
Wann can be difficult because wann is the question word, but wenn also means "when." So
associate the 'a' sound of wann with the 'a' sound of Frage, and you'll remember it every
time! Wann ist die Frage!
Everybody loves the German word for cell phone: das Handy. And what is everyone always
searching for? Their cell phone. Thus: Wo ist mein Handy?
