Hot Spot ࣍ࢵࢺࢫ࣏ࢵࢺ Yoshida Fire Festival 吉田の火祭り よし だ ひ まつ Held at the foot of Mt. Fuji, this is a festival with a rich history. A couple of mikoshi (portable shrines) in the shape of Mt. Fuji, called “Oyama-san” (Mr. Mountain), are carried out of the shrine. When they arrive at the otabisho (a place where the mikoshi is placed for a brief period), roughly 70 large torches, in addition to torches piled up in front of residents’ houses, are all lit up at once, transforming the town into a magical wonderland.
