Introduction
【 Notice to Students Who Enroll from 2014 】
The new curriculum of the Music Performance Department is categorized in 8 fields:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
Private instruction in a major instrument or voice.
All students are required to take weekly private lessons. At the end of every semester there
will be a performance exam. At the end of the sophomore year, students are required to
perform this exam in public.
Fundamental music training
Students are required to take the weekly Introductory Seminars given by various members
of the faculty. Solfège classes are divided according to the placement exam given at the
beginning of the academic year.
Experience in on-stage performance
The performance exam open to the public at the end of the sophomore year serves to chart
the curriculum map for the junior and senior years.
Excellence in ensemble music
Ensemble playing will teach students a higher level of communication skill that is useful for
their future careers, regardless of the fields they will choose to work in. Therefore, the
ensemble music program has an important place in the Performance Department.
Development of a broad repertoire of literature for ensemble and solo
The curriculum is made to encourage students to learn different kinds of repertoire.
Knowledge of the cultural background of a broad spectrum of music
In order to be a well-rounded performer, students are encouraged to study the culture when
and where the music was composed. In particular, Ferris has a mission to introduce
Christian Music to our students.
Experience in teaching
The present curriculum considers that learning how to teach is a vital career preparation for
the students.
Study of minor instruments or voice to broaden musical expression
Private instruction in minor instruments and group ballet lessons are available through P.A.
categories, with extra fees.
