1 Course Summary and Objectives(授業の概要・到達目標)
Course Objectives
This course provides principles of the international community coping with global issues, and overviews its history.
Course Contents
After the end of the Cold War, the market economy prevailed worldwide which resulted in widening inequality
between countries and within each nation; and destabilizing global human security. This course will show the origin
and history of these problems known as "global issues" today, and how the international community is trying
to tackle these issues by learning the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Tokyo International Conference
on African Development (TICAD), Earth Summit, Global Compact and Academic Impact. This course invites
various guest speakers including former and current U.N. senior officials, international NGO's leaders and lawyers.
Expected outcome:
Students will understand the basics about the United Nations and global problems before the U.N. Students are
expected to express their own opinions and analytical thinking on global issues.
