ELI students may live on or off campus. On-campus housing is popular
and limited. It is best to apply eight (8) weeks or more before your ELI
start date. Students will receive a housing application and information
in the ELI admissions packet. (Also see: www.umbc.edu/eli/housing)

Most students will require an F-1 visa to study in the U.S. Students will
receive visa information in the ELI admissions packet.

Health Insurance

ELI students in F-1 visa status must purchase UMBC health insurance.
Health care is not nationalized in the U.S., so it is more expensive
than in many other countries. It is very important that students have
appropriate insurance coverage. Students will receive information
about UMBC student health insurance in the ELI admissions packet.
