Dear IS Modena families,
Welcome to another week of intense activities in school. But before we plunge into our never ending
activities agenda for this week, I would like to share with you the following article from The Telegraph,

Our warmest welcome to another new student here at IS Modena, Mekael E. will be joining our Transition
class. We wish our new student and his family a smooth transition into the new country, home and school
life.
Once again the Modena area has been hit by disaster after last week's heavy rain and tornado. Entire crops
have been wiped out threatening the livelihoods of many farmers. Our thoughts are with those affected.

Gentili Famiglie IS Modena,
Inizia un’altra settimana di intense attività a scuola. Ma prima di immergerci nella lunghissima lista di
attività di questa settimana, vorrei condividere con voi il seguente articolo di The Telegraph del 27 aprile:

Oggi diamo anche il benvenuto ad un nuovo studente: Mekael E. che frequenterà la classe di Transition.
Auguriamo al nostro nuovo studente e alla sua famiglia un facile inserimento nel nuovo paese, nella nuova
casa e nella nuova vita scolastica.
Ancora una volta il ns. territorio è stato colpito da disastri atmosferici con violente piogge e un tornado la
settimana scorsa. Intere coltivazioni sono state rovinate mettendo a repentaglio le attività di molti
agricoltori. I ns. pensieri sono vicini alle numerose famiglie coinvolte.

The PTA is very pleased and excited to inform you that they contacted Andrea Ligabue (the “ludologo”),
who is a Modena-based board games expert and reviewer. He will hold workshops with all of our
students and help them use strategic thinking via board games and help them understand how to apply
it to everyday life.
Andrea works as a game consultant developing game projects for schools and organizations. During the
sessions, students will experience first hand the benefits and pleasure of playing board games. They will
have to think critically and strategically, to communicate, share, wait for turns and interact with each
other.
During the game session, he will divide the children into groups, talk about the rules of the game and
guide them. The students will have to interact and negotiate with others in order to take decisions. At
the end, there will be a briefing of what was learned during the development of the game.
Additionally, Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 students will participate in a mini games tournament.
The game program will be held on selected dates throughout May and June, with each class participating
in one game session.

Furthermore, we have contacted Manine d’Oro for a special session with our youngest ones
(Kindergarten). They will also play board games, but specially directed at their age.
We hope this will be a very fun and educational program for the whole school.
The PTA have arranged and is sponsoring the whole project, using the funds raised from the 2012 & 2013
Winter Fair.

Il PTA è molto lieto di informarvi di aver contattato Andrea Ligabue (il “ludologo”), un esperto e critico
di giochi di strategia di Modena . Terrà un workshop con tutti i nostri studenti e li aiuterà ad usare il
pensiero strategico attraverso i giochi di ruolo e li aiuterà a capire come applicarlo nella vita quotidiana.
Andrea lavora come consulente di gioco nello sviluppo di progetti ludici per scuole ed organizzazioni.
Nel corso delle sessioni, gli studenti vivranno in prima persona i benefici ed il piacere di giocare giochi di
strategia. Dovranno anche pensare criticamente e strategicamente per comunicare, condividere,
aspettare per il turno ed interagire con gli altri.
Nel corso delle sessioni di gioco, dividerà i bambini in gruppi, parlerà loro delle regole di gioco e li
guiderà. Gli studenti dovranno interagire e negoziare con gli altri per prendere decisioni. Al termine, ci
sarà un momento di confronto su cosa si è imparato nello sviluppo del gioco.
In aggiunta, gli studenti di Grades 3, 4, 5 e 6 parteciperanno in un mini torneo.
Il programma di gioco si terrà in date selezionate tra Maggio e Giugno, con ogni classe che parteciperà
ad una sessione di gioco.

Inoltre, abbiamo contattato Manine d’Oro per una sessione speciale dedicata ai più piccolini
(Kindergarten). Anche loro giocheranno a giochi di società ma specialmente dedicati a questa fascia
d’età.
Ci auguriamo questo sia un programma molto divertente ed educativo per tutta la scuola.
Il PTA ha organizzato e sponsorizza l’intero progetto usando fondi raccolti in occasione della Fiera
d’Inverno 2012 e 2013.

Parking area
All parents must use the public parking area outside the
school gate at all times.
Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you
don’t leave any personal belongings in the car.
Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus
service.
