Dear IS Modena families,
What an incredible show, once again our Winter Spettacolo has brought magic all around!
A GREAT CELEBRATION OF OUR STUDENTS’ WORK, EFFORT AND PASSION!
This year’s Winter Spettacolo has seen the involvement of a large part of our school community
(students, staff & parents). Students and staff have worked incredibly hard to put the show together,
learning how working in a team becomes essential to reach the common objective. The students
involved in the cast and production team had to give up a few subject lessons for rehearsals but the
energy, effort and work they’ve put into it have made this a learning experience, the kind you won’t
learn from any book but from living it!
The Winter Spettacolo is more than just a simple school show, it’s an inestimable school experience for
our students, which will never be forgotten and will be treasured for a lifetime! What a fantastic team
work thanks to every single one of you!
We are not done yet! We still have a couple of student led events this week:



Our Winter Spettacolo “Young Edition” - Kindergarten, Transition & Grade 1 will take place on
Wednesday, December 17th @ 13:00 in the Gym;
Grade 9 presentation on their interdisciplinary unit on First World War – Wednesday, December
17th @ 14:00 in the Auditorium;
After school activities:
Terza Media Math IT, Chess Club & Good Afternoon;

MESSAGE FROM THE STUDENT COUNCIL
Dear parents,
The Student Council has decided to organise a Festive Colours-Themed Non-School Uniform
Day on Friday the 19th of December. On that day, students may come to school dressed in
clothing of their own choice but we would like the clothing to consist of colours that are usually
associated with any December celebration in your home country (e.g. Pancha Ganapati,
Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule or any other traditional celebration, depending on your country of
origin). We hope to create a colourful and festive atmosphere by letting everybody wear colours
which reflects their own culture. It is optional to comply with this colour scheme but it is
appreciated if your child joins in. Please remember that the rules of the school dress code will still
be applied: all clothes should be of appropriate lengths.

Gentili famiglie IS Modena,
Che spettacolo incredibile, ancora una volta il Winter Spettacolo ha ricreato un’atmosfera magica!
UNA GRANDE CELEBRAZIONE DEL LAVORO, DEDIZIONE E PASSIONE DEI NOSTRI STUDENTI!
Lo Spettacolo d’Inverno di quest’anno ha visto il coinvolgimento di gran parte della nostra comunità
scolastica (studenti, staff, & genitori). Gli studenti e lo staff hanno lavorato sodo per allestire lo show,
imparando come il lavoro di squadra sia fondamentale per il raggiungimento di un obiettivo comune.
Gli studenti del cast e della produzione hanno dovuto saltare alcune lezioni per le prove, ma l’energia,
l’impegno e il lavoro che hanno dedicato allo spettacolo lo hanno reso un’esperienza di apprendimento
reale, di quelle che non si traggono dai libri ma vivendole!
Lo Spettacolo d’Inverno è qualcosa di più di una semplice recita scolastica, è un’esperienza inestimabile
che non verrà mai dimenticata e anzi sarà conservata tra i ricordi di una vita.
Un fantastico lavoro di gruppo grazie all’impegno di ognuno di voi!
Non abbiamo ancora finito quest’anno! Abbiamo ancora un paio di eventi dei ns. Studenti in
programma questa settimana:



Spettacolo d’Inverno edizione “Young” (Kindergarten, Transition & Grade 1) si terrà mercoledì 17
dicembre nella palestra alle ore 13:00;
Grade 9 presentazione della loro unità interdisciplinare sulla Prima Guerra Mondiale - mercoledì
17 dicembre nell’Auditorium alle ore 14:00;
Attività dopo scuola:
Matematica Italiana per la Terza Media, Club di Scacchi e Good Afternoon Club.

MESSAGGIO DAL CONSIGLIO STUDENTESCO
Cari genitori,
Il Consiglio Studentesco ha deciso di organizzare una “Giornata senza uniforme e a tema colori
delle festività “ questo venerdì 19 dicembre. In questa giornata, gli studenti potranno venire a
scuola senza uniforme ma dovranno indossare indumenti in colori normalmente associati alle
celebrazioni di dicembre nei loro Paesi di provenienza (ad esempio Pancha Ganapati, Christmas,
Hannukkah, Yule oppure qualsiasi altra tradizione celebrata nel loro Paese di origine). Speriamo di
creare un’atmosfera colorata e festiva attraverso i colori indossati dagli studenti che rifletteranno
le loro culture. Questa iniziativa è facoltativa ma sarebbe fortemente apprezzato qualora i vs. figli
ne prendessero parte. Per favore ricordatevi le normative in vigore nel codice di abbigliamento
scolastico: tutti gli indumenti dovranno essere di lunghezza appropriata.

Grade 9 presentation on their interdisciplinary unit on First World War
One of the changes to the MYP for the ‘Next Chapter’ is an increased importance for the interdisciplinary units.
Students will now be assessed using not only the subject specific discipline criteria but for certain assessments
they will also be assessed using the new interdisciplinary assessment criteria, which emphasises the skills of
synthesis, reflection and communication. Each MYP student will take at least one interdisciplinary unit per year.
The end of year report will include feedback to parents on these interdisciplinary skills. Grade 9 is the first to
work on one of the new style interdisciplinary units. This term they have been working on First World War
related topics in Humanities, English, French, Italian, Art, and Music. On Wednesday December 17th they will
exhibit their work to students from Grade 5 upwards. Parents of Grade 9 students are also invited to attend
between 2pm and 2.45pm.

Uno dei cambiamenti nel programma MYP per il “Next Chapter” è un incremento di importanza nelle unità
interdisciplinari. Gli studenti non saranno valutati usando solo i criteri specifici per la materia ma in alcune
prove saranno valutati usando i nuovi criteri di valutazione interdisciplinari che enfatizzano le abilità di sintesi,
riflessione e comunicazione. Ogni studenti MYP avrà almeno una unità interdisciplinare all’anno. Alla fine
dell’anno scolastico, la pagella includerà il giudizio su queste abilità interdisciplinari. Grade 9 è la prima classe a
lavorare su una delle nuove unità interdisciplinari. Il primo trimestre hanno lavorato sugli argomenti collegati
alla Prima Guerra Mondiale in Discipline Umanistiche, Inglese, Francese, Italiano, Arte e Musica. Mercoledì 17
dicembre mostreranno il loro lavoro agli studenti da Grade 5 in poi. I genitori di Grade 9 sono invitati a
partecipare dalle 14:00 alle 14:45.

LIBRARY NEWS
NEW POLICY ON LIBRARY FINES FOR OVERDUE/LOST BOOKS
Please note our new policy on fines for overdue and lost library books that will be applicable from
January 7th 2015.
ISM students may borrow books from our libraries for up to two weeks. After this time they may
renew the books if they wish to keep them for another two weeks.
If the books become overdue the following fines will apply:
5 Euros for books returned between one and two weeks late
10 Euros for books returned over two weeks late or lost/damaged.
This is the effective cost of purchasing a new book.
While fines are owing, the students concerned will not be allowed to take further books out on loan.
Fines will be notified to families and payable in the school office.
NUOVA POLICY DELLA BIBLIOTECA SULLE SANZIONI PER LIBRI CONSEGNATI IN RITARDO/PERSI
Vi informiamo che la nuova policy sulle sanzioni in caso di libri restituiti in ritardo e per i libri persi
sarà in vigore a partire dal 7 gennaio 2015.
Gli studenti ISM possono prendere in prestito libri dalla Biblioteca per due settimane. Oltre questo
tempo, gli studenti possono rinnovare il prestito se desiderano tenere il libro per altre due
settiumane.
Se il libro viene restituito in ritardo, si applicheranno le seguenti sanzioni:
5 euro per i libri restituiti tra una e due settimane in ritardo
10 euro per i libri restituiti oltre 2 settimane in ritardo o per I libri danneggiati/persi.
Questo è il costo effettivo per acquistare nuovamente un nuovo libro.
Finchè non verrà pagata la sanzione, gli studenti interessati non potranno prendere altri libri in
prestito.
Le sanzioni saranno notificate ai genitori e saranno pagabili in segreteria.

REMINDERS
School activity starts at 8:30!
We kindly remind you that school days start at 8:30 sharp. Which means the school activity will
begin exactly at 8:30 and any late comers will be disrupting class. Please try to make an effort and
come in before 8:30 am, children can be dropped off from 8:10 onwards.
L’attività accademica inizia alle 8:30!
Vi ricordiamo che le lezioni iniziano alle 8.30 in punto. Ciò significa che le attività didattiche della
giornata iniziano proprio alle 8:30 e qualsiasi ritardatario si ritroverà ad interrompere
inevitabilmente il lavoro della classe. Vi invitiamo a cercare di arrivare prima delle 8.30, vi
ricordiamo che gli studenti possono arrivare dalle 8:10 in avanti.
WINTER SEASON
Please make sure students have winter coats for outdoor breaks & activities.
STAGIONE INVERNALE
Assicuratevi che gli studenti siano muniti di giacche e giacconi invernali per le ricreazioni
all’aria aperta.
PARKING AREA
All parents must use the public parking area outside the school gate at all times.
Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you don’t leave any personal belongings in
the car.
Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus service.
PARCHEGGIO ESTERNO
Tutti i genitori devono utilizzare sempre il parcheggio all’esterno del cancello. Ricordatevi di
chiudere le portiere dell’auto e non lasciate borse e borsette in macchina. Il parcheggio interno è
riservato allo staff e ai bus scolastici.
