Abstract
Two researches were carried out on behalf of the Osservatorio Nazionale sulla Famiglia (National
Family Observatory) entitled “Vulnerable Families with Minors” and “Families and Care for Frail
Elderly”. Some case studies of good practices was carried out, in light of a relational and family
perspective. The research on vulnerable families with children focused on three main areas of
interest: 1) families with underage children or underage children at risk of removal; 2) families with
separated/divorced parents; 3) migrant families.
The study on families with frail elderly investigated innovative practices of care and support in
three highly different regions: Lombardy, Liguria (the region with the highest percentage of elderly
persons in Italy) and Sicily.
The result of the two studies highlighted the existence of interventions/services provided by both
public and private bodies in different areas of Italy, which have successfully identified the relational
dimension of the needs, providing solutions which are also characterised by relationality and
personal and community empowerment.
