Curriculum Vitae
Jeroen van Vonderen was born on the 15th of March 1987 in the Academisch Ziekenhuis
Leiden (Leiden University Medical Center) at 30+0 weeks. He graduated from the Zandvliet
College secondary school in 2005 and started to study bio-pharmaceutical sciences in
the same year. He continued this study until he received his Bachelor of Science in 2012.
In September 2007 he started to study medicine at the Leiden University Medical Center.
He received his Bachelor of Science in medicine in 2011. From 2009 until 2011 he worked
as a student assistant for dr. Kim Schilleman and dr. Arjan te Pas to collect data for the
MOUNTAIN trial. In 2011 he started his PhD-training under the supervision of Dr. Arjan te
Pas. During his PhD-training he also spent some time in the Monash Institute of Medical
Research to perform research with the group led by prof. Stuart Hooper. In November
2014 he will start his internships which are part of the regular medical curriculum.

Dankwoord
Als “Fred” begon ik tijdens het eerste jaar van de studie Geneeskunde mijn tijd bij de
afdeling neonatologie met het verzamelen van metingen bij prematuur geboren
kinderen. Ik werd al snel gegrepen door dit onderzoek en vlak voor de start van de
co-schappen deed zich de kans voor om zelf (promotie)onderzoek te doen, iets wat ik
zelf niet voor mogelijk had gehouden. Na 3 jaar en veel verschillende projecten is dit
proefschrift tot stand gekomen. Dit had ik niet kunnen bereiken door hulp van velen.
Hen ben ik allemaal zeer dankbaar.
Allereerst wil ik alle patiënten en ouders bedanken die mee hebben gedaan aan één
van deze onderzoeken. Daarnaast wil ik alle neonatologen, fellows neonatologie, artsassistenten en verpleegkundigen bedanken voor hun deelname aan en medewerking
met de studies. Bedankt dat jullie bereid waren mee te helpen tussen alle drukke
werkzaamheden door.
Mijn co-promotor, dr. A.B. te Pas ben ik zeer dankbaar voor de kans die hij mij gegeven
heeft. Beste Arjan, zonder jouw onuitputtelijke stroom aan ideeën was ik nooit zo ver
gekomen. Ook heb ik van jou geleerd om altijd in oplossingen te denken, maar wanneer
er echter niet direct een oplossing was, kon ik er altijd wel op vertrouwen dat “alles
goed komt”. Bedankt dat je mij je kennis over dit onderwerp, en velen dingen meer hebt
willen bij brengen, de vrijheid die je mij gegeven hebt en me hebt afgeremd wanneer
