Chapter 5 Into the Wilderness

大自然へ
This small bear is only a few weeks old.
 Until now, her life has been
in the warm underground den where she
暖かい地下の洞窟の中
was born.
 But now she is making her first trip outside with her
mother

into the wilderness that she must learn to make her
home.

Other bear families are also moving down
〜から降りて移動す
る
from the mountains.
During the winter the baby bears drank
〜の間
much of their mothers’ milk, but the
mothers haven’t eaten anything.
They are very hungry and hurry through the
snow to find food.


The bear cubs see salmon-packed rivers
for the first time.
鮭で一杯になった川
初めて
But many other bears come from far away to
these rivers.
遠くから
Salmon is just the kind of food that these
丁度 〜食料と言えるもの
bears need, especially the mothers, who have
been feeding their cubs during the winter
. ずっと餌を与えてきた(母乳)



However, catching salmon is not easy. It is a skill
that bears have to learn by watching

experienced hunters.

So the cubs stay close to watch their mother
近くにいる 見る為に
fish, but the noisy river is scary for the small
魚を捕る 大きな音を立てている
bears.


Their mother uses all of her energy to catch

a quick and slippery salmon.
すばしこく滑りやすいサケ
And when their mother returns with a fish for

the cubs, they eagerly enjoy their first salmon.

Then the mother leads her cubs away from

the river, and the bears begin to enjoy the

wilderness.
For the next two years, their mother will

protect them and teach them about their new
world.
