President’s Report- Darlene McBain (see attached)
Treasurer’s Report- Rosemary Gillis
Motion: Rosemary Gillis moved the Treasurer’s report be adopted as written

Salute Event Coordinator Report- Jeremy Heighton
 Recapped 2010 Salute event
- 230,000 visitors to the park from Sept.15 to Nov.1 required extra services such
as traffic control, waste handling, security, and more

- 58 plus international media attended required communication with BC Parks
concerning filming permits and who was covering the event
- Over 15,000 school children attended the School Interpretive program run by
DFO, also required consistent information to be presented by volunteer
interpreters and trail signage
- Required approx. 220 community volunteers
- All visitors to this event bring a great deal of money and economic prosperity
meaning growth to the region
Salute 2014
- Meetings are now being held regularly leading up to the big event
- Site logistics, contract obligations; site maintenance, traffic control, toilette
rentals, first aid, artisan tent contractor and security
- Festival will have special events and activities; scheduling has just begun
- Opening ceremony; Jeremy invited society members to make suggestions.
Details are being discussed and arranged
- Website (www.salmonsociety.com) will be designed with specific pages and
sections so people can easily access information
- Volunteers are required for this year’s event. Explained the importance of all the
roles and the ability that volunteers have to create a positive first impression for
visitors to the area
- Explained the importance of Membership; will be pre-selling memberships and
packages on our website and during the Salute.
Packages include admission pass (unlimited entry), programme and poster. All at
discounted rates as a benefit to current members and an incentive to become a
new member.
BC Parks update: Wes DeArmond- Area Supervisor Thompson Eastern Lakes
 Capital Upgrade Program for Roderick Haig-Brown
- currently underway, it is a facility improvement to make the area a more inviting place
for people to gather year round, not just every 4 years for the Salute. It has improved
picnic areas, drinking water, and power supply, all increasing the facilities ability to host
various events.
- BC Parks is interested in preserving the Park for its natural and cultural values along
with the Salmon Society, Pacific Salmon Foundation, DFO, Natures Trust BC, First
Nations, public and private sector, regional ministries and local communities.
- Explained the importance of moving the old viewing platform and other facilities away
from this area of the river to allow it to continue its natural process of shifting with spring
freshets and reclaimed the area with vegetation.
- Added de-acceleration lane at the entrance for safety. Improved power and water
services for concessions and the display areas for interpretation
- Going in next month; First Nations recognition and interpretation trail signage, trail
improvements on all Lower trails allowing better access for wheelchairs

- New viewing platform is being built and will be installed by the end of August
- Total estimated cost of Facility Upgrade project is 1.2 million
 BC Parks roll at the 2014 Salute to the Sockeye
- Will bring in staff to ensure public safety and park security
- Approximately 4 Rangers on every day, acting as ambassadors as well
- Issuance of special Provincial authorizations for filming/photography along the river
banks and other permits within the park
- Acknowledged the huge undertaking of hosting the Salute festival for everyone
involved
Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Janna Nelson
- DFO has a team of seven individuals dedicated to the Salute including Officers,
Administrative staff, and Biologists
- Main responsibility is organizing the school program; including salmon (DFO) and
ecosystem (Provincial Government) components
- The DFO interpretive tent will include other partners
- DFO will be performing their annual salmon count on the river as well
Election of Board Members:
 One Executive position is up for election this year, it is Secretary
- Dana McIntyre has been acting as the Salmon Society Secretary on the authority of
the board. Dana has left his name to stand for the position of secretary to be voted on at
this annual general meeting.
- No one else asked to be nominated for the position of secretary
By acclamation: Dana McIntyre will take the position of secretary

General Directors
- One nominee for general director Aaron Arnouse. Aaron has been acting as LSLIB
Liaison director since Tess Tomma left the roll. Dale Tomma will now be taking over the
Liaison position.
- No additional nominations were received
By acclamation: Aaron Armouse will become a general director
North Shuswap Naturalist Club
- Donated $1000. to the Salmon Society for development of the Interpretive Cabin
Salute Volunteers
- The Society will be running the souvenir sales this year so volunteers are needed in
this area. In addition to Media/Volunteer tent, parking crew, and more
