Calendar ★ Feb 23(Sun) 11:00 am 日曜礼拝 / Sunday Service Mar 2 (Sun) 9 am ～クリーンアップ･オーストラリア･ディ / Clean up Australia Day ＠Lane Cove National Park [ 日曜礼拝は休座/No service at HBMA] 6 (Thu) 6 :45 am Rev Watanabe will attend “The Inaugural NSW Interfaith Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast”at The Ballroom, The Westin Sydney, hosted by Australian Catholic University カトリック大主催宗際朝食会 9 (Sun) 11:00 am 三月祥月&東日本大震災物故者追悼法要 /March Shotsuki & Memorial Service for the Japan-quake deceased 16 (Sun) 11:00 am 日曜礼拝/Sunday Service 23 (Sun) 11:00 am 秋季彼岸会/Autumn O-Higan Service 24 (Mon) 〔本願寺報発行 / New Bulletin Issue 〕 30 (Sun) 〈休座 / No Service 〉 Apr 6 (Sun) 11:00 am 花まつり法要&四月祥月法要/Hana-matsuri & April Shotsuki シドニー本願寺報 (1ページより) 2014年涅槃会を厳修なければ、悲しい現実が待っている、という当たり前の教訓を全ての住民が共有し、こうした災害被害を最小限に抑える方策を今後講じて欲しいと願ったことでした。釈尊入涅槃図『…私の亡き後は、私の説き遺した法がおまえたちの師である。この法を保ち続けてわたしに仕えるようにするがよい。…』 (お釈迦様の言葉より) さて、開教事務所では2月９日にお釈迦様の入涅槃、つまり仏教の開祖お釈迦さまがお亡くなりになられた事を追悼し感謝を捧げる涅槃会の法要が勤められました。お釈迦様は、人間が煩悩や業や苦惑から解放される道、生きることの根源的意味を明らかに示して下さいました。お釈迦様がこの世にお出ましになって下さったお陰で、私たちはその教え、仏教を学び仏道を歩むことができるのです。そのようなお釈迦様の遺徳に感謝を捧げる法会が涅槃会なのです。ここで言う「涅槃」とは単なる「死」を意味しているのではありません。涅槃とはサンスクリット語の「ニルバーナ」を音訳したもので、もともと「火の消えた状態」という意味を持っています。火は人間の欲望･煩悩を表していますので、その煩悩の炎を全て消し去って完全な悟りを開いた状態のことを言うのです。そして、最期に、お釈迦さまのいのちの火が消え、入滅した時を、完全な涅槃ということで「大般涅槃」と呼び、永遠のやすらぎを得た状態のことを言います。お釈迦さまの最期については、次の様に伝えられています。－クシナガラに着いたお釈迦様は城の外の沙羅(シャーラ)樹の林に行き、二本の沙羅樹の大木が並び立っている間に頭を北にして西を向いて横たわられました。お亡くなりになる当日、スバッダという行者がお釈迦様の死期が近いことを聞きつけて、お釈迦様に会いに来ます。アナンダはお釈迦様のお体を気遣い拒絶しようとしますが、お釈迦様はスバッダに法を説かれたのでした。感銘を受けた彼は出家し、お釈迦様の最後の直弟子となったのでした。この様にお釈迦様は最期まで教えを説き世 Page ２間の大導師たる仏としての仕事を成し終り静かに涅槃に入ろうとしていました。 それまでお釈迦さまに常に付き添っていたアナンダは、ついにお釈迦様がお亡くなりになると思い家の中に入って、戸の横木によりかかって、一人泣いていたといいます。しかし、そんなアナンダをお釈迦さまは呼び他の修行者たちの前でお話しをされます。「弟子たちよ、今は私の最期の時である。しかし、この死は肉体の死であることを忘れてはならない。肉体は父母より生れ、食によって保たれるものであるから、病み、傷つき、壊れることはやむを得ない。仏の本質は肉体ではない。さとりである。肉体はここに滅びても、さとりは永遠に法と道とに生きている。だから、私の肉体を見るものが私をみるのではなく、私の教えを知る者こそ私を見る。私の亡き後は、私の説き遺した法がおまえたちの師である。この法を保ち続けてわたしに仕えるようにするがよい。」「もろもろの事象は過ぎ去るものである。おこたることなく修行を完成しなさい。」－これがお釈迦さまの最後の言葉であったと経典は伝えています。仏教を開かれたお釈迦さまは、一人の人間として、安らかに最期を迎え、静かに永遠の涅槃に入られたのでした。アナンダを始め弟子達の嘆きは、想像を絶するほど深いものであったと伝えられています。その様子は「釈尊入涅槃図」として描かれ広く一般に知られています。お釈迦さまの死を入滅といいますが、これがいつであったかについても、様々な伝承がありますが、日本では「二月十五日」をその日とし、涅槃会が催されます。涅槃会にお参り頂いた、ハワードひとみさん、湖城修一さん、湖城律子さん & 尋ちゃん、ようこそお越し下さいました。そして家内の由紀美そして我が家の4人のこどもたち (由信、亜美、鈴、頌)といっしょに楽しく食事をすることができました。参拝して頂いた皆様のお陰で有り難い法要の場が設けられましたことを感謝致します。オーストラリア開教事務所長渡部重信 Lindfield East小学校で仏教スクリプチャー(聖典講読)クラス再開！開教事務所のご本尊前に置かれたお釈迦様の入涅槃図涅槃会に集った皆様：後列左より渡部重信開教使、湖城修一さん､湖城尋ちゃん、ハワードひとみさん、湖城律子さん、前列左より、頌君、亜美ちゃん、由信くん、鈴ちゃん＆由紀美。(９/02/14) 2月第二週より公立校の 2014年度スクリプチャークラスがスタートしました。新しく4人の生徒入り23人という生徒数でのスタートとなりました。最初の授業で (３ページへつづく）（２ページより） 2014年度スクリプチャー再開シドニー本願寺報は、生徒と自分自身の紹介をした後、お釈迦様の涅槃会の日も近いということで、お釈迦様の一生について子供用の歌も取り入れながら、お釈迦様の生い立ちの最初の部分を紹介、お釈迦様の絵も描きました。また今年一年、子供たちと一緒に楽しく仏教について学んで行きたいものと思っています。合掌 Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation(仏教慈済基金会)オーストラリアの新年祈念式典に出席去る2月16日(日)の午後、開教事務所の約10km東の地区、イーストウッドにある台湾浄土系仏教団体、仏教慈済基金会の豪州本部にて厳修された新年祈念式典に招待され、NSWアミタバ仏教協会会長グレイム･ライル氏、らと共に出席して参りました。式典には、昨年度猛威を振るったブこの日参列した皆さんを歓迎するスティーブン･ルーマウンテンズでの大きな山火事がカーン氏(16/02/14) あった際に真っ先に駆けつけて物心共に救済の手を差し伸べてもらったことにお礼の言葉を言うべくブルーマウンテンズ市の代表者も出席、一緒に慈済基金会の一年の活動を拝見させて頂き、新年のお祝いを共にさせて頂きました。合掌 Page 3 今月のことば高たか光みつ大だい船せん忘わす法ほう法ほう人ひとれにをはて生い求もといきめるるるこにとと止どをまって一八七九年～一九五一年 Reverend Daisen Takamitsu (1879 – 1851) People seek the Dharma but stop short of living it 真宗教団連合刊｢2014(平成26年)法語カレンダー」よりシドニー本願寺報 Page 4 HBMA News Perth→Sydney 豪州5200km横断！最終日高繁勝彦氏の｢ピース･ラン」に参加オペラハウスにゴール後、みんなと一緒に記念撮影(10/2/14) 昨年9月1日にパースを出発し163日目、ついにシドニーのオペラハウスに支援者と共にゴールする高繁勝彦氏。(10/2/14) 東日本大震災の三周年を後一ヶ月後に控えた2月10日に日本人アドベンチャーランナー高繁勝彦氏が豪州横断を成し遂げ、オペラハウスにゴールインという偉業を達成されました。高繁氏は震災被害で今も苦しんでいる人達に何か出来ないかということで、このピースランを始められ、既に北米大陸を横断、豪州の後は、ニュージーランド縦断を予定、最終的に、五大陸4 万キロ走破を目標に掲げ募金活動を続けていらっしゃいます。インタビューに対し、｢1200km以上続くナラボー平原横断がとても大変だった。食べ物がなくて空腹で泣きそうに最終日の出発直前。なった。」と最も大変だった頃 HaberfieldのIGA前にて。を遠い昔のことを話すようにご懇念録語っていた様子が大変印象的でした。高繁氏のモットーは「あせらず、あわてず、あきらめず」。5ヶ月以上も一人で黙々と走ってきた氏の言葉はこころに響きます。最終日の 14km をハーバーフィールドから自転車や車で伴走した皆さんと一緒に参加させて頂き、氏の感動の一部を分けて頂きました。今後も健康に留意されて目標達成されますことを念じています！合掌お釈迦様の映画が完成。シドニーで初上映！ 2月12日(水)、シティのイベントシネマにてお釈迦様の一生を綴った映画が初上映会があり、招待を受けディビッドソン理事長と一緒に鑑賞して参りました。映画監督(右下) やシッダルダを演じた主演男優 (右上)の方も来豪しており彼らとの交流をすることも出来たことは有り難いご縁でした。合掌 Expression of Dana/Gratitude この一ヶ月間で、下記の方々より総計 1,487.00ドルのご懇志をご進納いただきました。また、本願寺設立基金へ計 100.00ドルが進納されました。合掌 In the past month, donations to the amount of 1,487.00 were offered to the Amida Buddha through the Hongwanji Buddhist Mission of Australia. Great job! Mr Katsuhiko Takashige, a Japanese adventure runner finally finished his “Peace Run” from Perth on Monday 10 February! The total distance of his run across Australia was 5,204.9km, and 163 days had elapsed since he left Perth on 1st September 2013. Rev Watanabe joined the last 14.4km from Haberfield to Sydney Opera House, which started 10:30am with total of 7 runners and 2 push bike riders. Mr Graeme Lyall AM President of Amitabha Buddhist Association of New South Wales Angels (=Tzu Chi members)” went to help those who were affected immediately, and many people were saved by them. The Acting Mayor and City Councillor came to express AM offering their appreciation on behalf of all residents of the Blue Mountains on this happy occasion and together celebrated their New Year. We also enjoyed watching their performances which explain Buddha’s teaching. Each performer did a wonderful job! In Gassho, Buddhist Scripture Class resumed at Lindfield East Public School. Buddhist scripture class restarted in February, at Lindfield East Public School where Rev Watanabe is a volunteering as a scripture teacher. 2014 makes his 8th year of continuing service! There are 23 students this year including 4 new faces. After introducing all students, we listened to the Buddhist music which tells Scripture students enjoy draw- us the life story of Shakyaing Buddha’s image (11/02/14) muni Buddha. This story teller uses children’s words, so everyone enjoyed listening to this music and story. It is very important task for adult to teach children about Buddha Dharma from their young age, and this scripture class is the wonderful opportunity. He became ill and predicted that after three months he would enter Nirvana. Still he journeyed on until he reached Pava where he fell seriously ill from some food offered by Chunda, a blacksmith. Eventually, in spite of great pain and weakness, he reached the forest that bordered Kusinagara. Lying between, two large sala trees, he continued teaching his disciples until The Parinirvana of the Buddha. Gandhis last moment.— hara 2-3rd Century Under the guidance of Ananda, the Buddha’s favourite disciple, the body was cremated by his friends in Kusinagara.Sakyamuni Buddha passed away a long time ago, but his teaching still live in the hearts and minds of Buddhists, and it continues to spread all over the world. As a follower of the Jodo Shinshu (the true essence of the Pure Land teachings), we always express our gratitude and respect to Sakyamuni Buddha to remind us that we share his noble teachings, and that we follow the way he laid down for us. Without Sakyamuni Buddha’s teaching, Buddhism would not be here with Amida Buddha us today. We have to deeply appreciate his work, and spread his teachings. Shinran Shonin said that Sakyamuni Buddha is the manifestation of Amida Buddha on this earth. In the Shoshinge, Shonin wrote as follows: “ My disciples, my last moment has come but do not forget that death is only the end of the physical body. The body was born from parents and was nourished by food; just as inevitable are sickness and death.” “ But the true Buddha is not a human body: - it is Enlightenment. A human body must die, but the Wisdom of Enlightenment will exist forever in the truth of the Dharma, and in the practice of the Dharma. He who sees merely my body does not truly see me. Only he who accepts my teaching truly sees me.” “ After my death, the Dharma shall be your teacher. Follow the Dharma and you will be true to me.” Thus he entered into perfect tranquility after he had completed his work as the world’s greatest teacher. “The reason for Tathagata (Nyorai = Amida Buddha)’s appearance in this world is solely to preach the ocean-like Original Vow of Amida. The ocean of multitudinous beings in the evil age with five defilements should believe in the Tathagata’s true words.” Let us reflect upon Sakyamuni Buddha’s noble teachings, paying our tribute and follow the way that he laid down for us. In Gassho Rev Shigenobu Watanabe NIRVANA (Perfect Tranquillity) Literally, Nirvana means, “to blow out.” This is the state where all human defilements and passions have been completely extinguished through certain practices and meditation based upon Right Wisdom. Those who had attained this state are called Buddhas. Gautama Siddhartha had attained this state and became a Buddha at 35. However, it is thought that it was only after he had passed away that he reached such a state of perfect tranquillity, because some residue of human defilement would have continued to be present as long as his physical body existed. HBMA members gathered at the Hondo to commemorate the passing of Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. After sutra chanting, we all offered incense. Then The picture of when I shared a story about Shakyamuni Buddha’s Shakyamuni’s last moments, passed away was disand showed the famous picplayed in front of the ture of his Pari-nirvana. We Shrine. According to “The 7 families/22 people gathered at Roseville Park for the Tennis tournament.(18/01/14) On a very hot summer’s day, we organized a tennis tournament at Roseville park tennis court. 22 people from seven families gathered and 14 players submitted their names for the Final match was done between Team Yushin-Sho (left) and Team tournament. It took Kazumi-Minoru. (18/01/14) more than two hours to finalise the champion team. The final match was held between Team Yushin-Sho and Team KazumiMinoru. Finally, once again, Team Kazumi-Minoru won twice in a row! Congratulations! Well done. Now we are planning to have an overnight camp during the Anzac Day long weekend from 26 to 27 April. So, for those who are interested in participating in the camp, please call the HBMA office on 8901 -4334.
