Maracay -VENEZUELA. Environmental pollution of soil and water, is a common denominator in urban and rural areas where humans coexist with multiple environmental problems that affect their quality of life. " Jardin Humano Taller Sobeida Luque" has been working with these purposes, with residents of Barrio Ojo de Agua, Maracay, Venezuela. Under the guidance of Dr. Oswaldo Luque M, environmental expert on treatment and reclamation of contaminated areas: soil and water. A day of planting vetiver (Chrysopogon zizaniodes) and fruit began: tangerine and avocado were planted on a stretch of “Quebrada La Mona”, tributary of “El Castaño river”, contaminated with waste and sewage inputs. On April 18, 2015, was summoned to the Community and Community Councils in the area, who participated in a day. The program included instruction to children and adults on the need to protect the environment, as well as the benefits of the vetiver plant: grass that protects the soil from erosion, its roots are deep, and has the ability to purify water and return clean to the environment (http:// www.vetiver.org) The fruit trees were planted, 10 avocados (Persea americana), 5 mandarin (Citrus aurantium) and 5 oranges (Citrus sinensis), to improve the community diet.
