And then the Holy Week is up. During these celebrations, we commemorate Jesus’ Christ Paschal mystery, the fulfillment of God’s salvific work for humanity. In that respect, the celebration of Lent and Holy Week open us up to a serious reflection on our baptism. Named as sons and daughters of Father God, our baptism opens us to innumerable graces from God. Through Christ, our baptism allows us to use God-given gifts and be pronounced by God as good and faithful servant, therefore, the reward of eternal life in heaven. These celebrations are very close to my heart because they have taught me a lot of things about my faith. The intricacies of each liturgy bespeak of the beauty of my Catholic faith. That is why these celebrations are very meaningful. As a faith community, we journey together and enrich each other’s faith by celebrating these liturgies meaningfully. In the past note, I described some thoughts about these liturgies. I will continue to do this in these succeeding weeks. This time I will talk about the baptismal fountain. Many have asked me or another person why we did not drain the baptismal font at the very start of the Lenten season. We did not drain the baptismal font because it should be so. Even if we also call this season our ‘desert time’, it does not literally mean the drought from God’s living water. In fact during this desert time, we need more of God’s living water to nourish us more and more. That water, which washed us clean and quenched our thirst for the living God, should continue to flow during this time when we are encouraged to reflect on our baptism. The baptismal font is drained after the celebration of the Last Supper and Washing of the Feet on Maundy Thursday. Also during this time, the altar is stripped and the sanctuary’s decorations are removed and the saints’ statues and pictures are covered with red or purple linen. The tabernacle is empty and left open. Church bells will not be heard after the Gloria at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper until the Gloria at the Mass of the Easter Vigil. In this case, all baptismal fonts should be without water only on Good Friday and the morning of Holy Saturday. The font is filled again during the celebration of the Blessing of the New Water at the Easter Vigil. The New Water will be used to baptize the elect. So why do we drain the water in the Baptismal font? Two things: 1. The Church unites with the suffering and death of Christ on the cross, 2. To await the springing of New Water flowing from the Resurrected Christ. O0o Here is the continuation of the installment of Fr. Dwight’s thoughts on what to do when challenged by doing the same sins. “9. Pray that you will see the sin for what it really is. You will not rid yourself of the sin until you are truly disgusted by it. Imagine being addicted to bacon cheeseburgers. You will only kick the habit when you get to the point where you see a picture of a bacon cheeseburger and say, ‘Ugggh! Why would I want to eat that greasy lump of dead animal stuck between that gooey bun dripping with that revolting ketchup?’ So pray that your desires will be purified and you will be attracted to all that is beautiful, good and true. 10. Find a good confessor and stay with him. The serious penitent returns to the confessor and builds a relationship so he can see that progress is being made. If your parish priest is not that person find one who is and value him. He’ll help you overcome the sins that keep troubling you.” Nuestros cuarenta días de Cuaresma observancia continúa como movimiento en dirección a la quinta y sexta semana. Y se aproxima, la Semana Santa. Durante estas celebraciones, que se conmemora a Cristo el misterio pascual de Jesús, el cumplimiento de la obra salvífica de Dios por la humanidad. A este respecto, la celebración de la Cuaresma y la Semana Santa nos abre a una seria de reflexión sobre nuestro bautismo. Nombrados como hijos e hijas de Dios Padre, nuestro bautismo nos abre a innumerables gracias de Dios. A través de Cristo, nuestro bautismo nos permite utilizar dones dados por Dios y ser pronunciada por Dios como siervo bueno y fiel, por lo tanto, la recompensa de la vida eterna en el cielo. Estas celebraciones están muy cerca de mi corazón, porque me han enseñado muchas cosas acerca de mi fe. Las complejidades de cada liturgia nos hablan de la belleza de mi fe católica. Es por eso que estas celebraciones son muy significativos. Como una comunidad de fe, caminamos juntos y enriquecemos la fe de cada uno con la celebración de estas liturgias significativa. En la nota pasada, describí algunas reflexiones sobre estas liturgias. Voy a continuar de hacer esto en estas semanas venideras. Esta vez voy a hablar de la fuente bautismal. Muchos me han preguntado a mi o otra persona porque sigue habiendo agua en la pila bautismal si lo vaciamos al comienzo de la Cuaresma. No vaciamos el agua de la pila bautismal porque debe ser así. Aunque también llamamos esta temporada nuestro 'tiempo del desierto', no significa, literalmente, la sequía del agua viva de Dios. De hecho, durante este tiempo del desierto, necesitamos más del agua viva de Dios para nutrirnos cada vez más y mas. Que el agua,que nos ha lava nos limpia y satisface la sed del Dios vivo, debe continuar fluyendo durante este tiempo y que nos anima a reflexionar sobre nuestro bautismo. La pila bautismal es drenado después de la celebración de la Última Cena y el Lavatorio de los Pies en Jueves Santo. También durante este tiempo, el altar es despojado y las decoraciones del santuario se quitan y las estatuas e imágenes de los santos se cubren con tela de color rojo o púrpura. El tabernáculo se vacía y se deja abierto. Las Campanas de la Iglesia no se escucharán después de la Gloria en la Misa de la Cena del Señor y vuelven a sonar hasta en la misa de la Vigilia de Pascua que es el sábado de Gloria. En este caso, todas las fuentes bautismales deben estar sin agua sólo el Viernes Santo y la mañana del Sábado Santo. La fuente se llena de nuevo durante la celebración de la Bendición de la nueva agua en la Vigilia de Pascua. La nueva agua se utilizará para bautizar a los elegidos. Ivan will be in the US for the coming school year, has full medical insurance, and provides for his personal expenses and school/sports fees. AFS welcomes all loving families (empty nesters, active retirees, families with children of any age) to apply as host families. Ivan is active in his Catholic high school and has excellent grades. His favorite hobby is photographing nature, and he enjoys gatherings with his extended family. He is interested in watching sports, running, playing board games, bicycling, tennis, volunteering, and reading. At home he is responsible for household chores, mowing the lawn, and cleaning his room. He lives with his parents and older sister (age 28).
