The students all had a lot of enthusiasm and wanted to put into practice right away all that was in the documents. The professor wisely tempered our enthusiasm and reminded us that we need to have patience, to first study the documents, apply the principles, and see what the consequences are for parish life. One of the things I remember most from this professor is that he told us that he would implement a mix, a combination of all that the past holds with the modern. What were the results? Excellent. We were able to consider the old as a treasure and accept the new as a gift from God. Why do I tell you this? Because God has chosen a people, He wants to have a community who adores Him in Spirit and Truth. I remember my classmates from college because we were all so enthusiastic about the council and ready to make radical changes in the church but we forgot about or at times tried to bury the great past. I think that if today, Joshua (24:1) was standing in front of us and he asked us, “Who do you want to serve?” Or in our case, “what do you prefer, the new testament or the old?” Many of us would say, “this is very difficult” (John 6) Or what would happen if Jesus was here today in person and he asked us: “Does this shock you?” (John 6) Before I end, allow me to tell you that the teachings of Jesus appear very attractive. The Bible has been considered the best selling book for many decades, but the teachings within it, I tell you, are often difficult to understand and frequently difficult to put into practice. So, what do we do? The Gospel of Saint John has given us a very good help because it tells us that Jesus makes a declaration that changes all the perspectives and illuminates all the doctrines about his person and about his message that exist in the world. Jesus says, “The words that I give you are the words of the Spirit, they are words of Eternal Life.” (John 6:60). In conclusion, thank you to my teachers in the University for your talent and dedication. Thanks to them I learned to love the past and enjoy the present. I learned from them tat the teachings of Jesus are the actualization of the Creative Word, which orders and gives life to the universe, which gives life to the soul and strength to continue walking with confidence the journey of our life. God has the words of Eternal Life La palabras que yo les digo son espíritu y vida. Who will you serve? (Joshua 24) Does this shock you? (John 6) A quien vas a servir? Jo.24 Esto los perturva? Jn. 6 Greetings and if you have a commentary you can find me at: [email protected] Saludos y si tienes algún comentario aquí me puedes encontrar: [email protected] page 2 www.shepherdcatholic.com Spirit and life Espíritu y vida “..he who eats this bread will live forever.” “...the words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.” Receiving Jesus in the Eucharist gives Spirit and life! How can I prepare to receive His Spirit and life? In making room for the Spirit I can ask myself, “Do I have any unforgiveness in my heart?” I can be a person of forgiveness. Going to Confession, can free my soul of sin. Surrender to the Spirit of the Living God, looking at things with the mind of Christ. Having faith in His plan, surrendering my life to Him. Give control over to Him... Trust in Him. Life: A life of love and service. Love takes sacrifice, Christ died because of his great love for us. In what way can I die to myself and serve others? I can desire God’s will more than my own. I can help someone, even if I may not want to. Giving clothes and food to those in need. Even little sacrifices, like leaving that last piece of pie for someone else to have. Anyone can be an intercessor and pray for others. There are so many in need of our prayers. The lonely, the sick, the dying. Those in purgatory and those with everyday struggles. Puedo ayudar a alguien, incluso si no quiero hacerlo. “…no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” “... He has called you by name. He has called you here today to receive his beloved Son that you may have Life. Surrender to the Holy Spirit each day. Offer things up, and unite your sufferings with the sufferings of Christ. This will bring you true peace. Jenny Jenny (Excerpts from Fr. Larry RichardsSurrender!) (Extractos de P. Are you a regular Mass attender but have never officially become Catholic? Beginning on Wednesday, September 16th in the Parish Hall, we will begin our classes called RCIA. The format is simple: We present the Catholic faith, help those who attend to experience it in a real way, and do it in a way where you will meet and get to know parishioners and others along the way. There is no pressure and no one is put on the spot. You don’t need to be totally committed to becoming Catholic to join, just an open mind and heart. Just take the step and come or invite the one person you know who is waiting for your invitation and go with them. For more information, call and talk with Joyce Eason at 541-664-5910 or Fr. Mike at the parish office. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION Pre Registration is open for 2015-2016 Religious Education for Elementary School Aged Children. LEARNING TO LOVE In Washington, DC in 1994 Mother Teresa said that we fight abortion by teaching the mother what love really means: “to be willing to give until it hurts...So, the mother who is thinking of abortion, should be helped to love, that is, to give until it hurts her plans, or her free time, to respect the life of her child.” Gustave Thibon has said that the true God transforms violence into suffering, while the false god transforms suffering into violence. The woman tempted to have an abortion will transform her suffering into violence unless she allows love to transform her, and make her willing to give herself away. The Eucharist gives both the lesson and the power. Mom is to say “This is my body, my blood, my life, given up for you my child.” LOVE THE LORD EVERYDAY AS HE SO LOVES YOU!
