My dear Parishioners,
Pope Francis announced an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy
set to begin December 8, 2015, saying “Jesus is the face of
the Father’s Mercy.” Pope Francis said this Holy Year is
“dedicated to living out in our daily lives the mercy which
God constantly extends to us all.”
Last Sunday I shared this poem in my homily. God’s mercy
is forever sure!

Volunteers Needed for Christ House Ministry:
Nativity Parish provides the evening meal and serves the
homeless at Christ House several times per year, when there is
a 5th Sunday in the month. Volunteers needed (age 13 +) to
donate food and help prepare and serve the meal at Christ

HUNDRED SCHOOLS INVITED TO COMPETE
3-PERSON TEAM TRAVELS TO DARTMOUTH IN
MAY
Will Boscia, Andy Chasseloup, and Sebastian Criado
(pictured below), all 7th grade students here at Nativity,
and all X-STEM Ambassadors, won the right to represent
their school at the prestigious SeaPerch Challenge Competition next month. It was their brainchild, a Remotely
Operated underwater Vehicle (ROV), that earned the team
the spot. At the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth,
the boys will compete as one of 100 X-STEM Clubs
nationally, and
one of only
three Northern
Virginia XSTEM teams
invited. It took
several weekends for the
team — with
guidance from
their advisors,
Dr. and Mrs.
Daniel Eleuterio — to design,
build and test the ROV, to have it ready for the recent
qualifying regional competition. Finishing third place
overall in the regional competition qualified the Nativity
team to compete in the upcoming national competition
next month. Stay tuned — we’ll report our team’s results
from the national SeaPerch Challenge Competition to be
held from May 29th to May 31st.

Annual Multi-Car Raffle Thank you to all those who
sold and purchased tickets this year. The All Saints Festival is on Saturday, 25 April and the five 2015 vehicles
from Koons of Manassas (Honda Odessey Van, Honda
CRV Sport Utility, GMC Sierra truck, Buick Verano &
a Honda Civic) plus up to $20,000 in cash will awarded
throughout the day. A list of winners will be available

Council 7992 Frenchy Cyr Memorial Scholarship
program will award six $1000 scholarships for Catholic
High School tuition (grades 9-12). Entrants must be registered parishioners at Nativity, or a son, daughter or
grandchild of an active member of council 7992. Applications are available in the Church office, at Nativity
School, from guidance counselors at John Paul the
Great and Paul VI high schools, or from Tony Rozga,

The Knights of Columbus next business meeting will
be on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in the Parish Hall. Rosary will begin at 7:15 pm followed by the meeting at

Attention Young Adults. Are you weary and in need of rest? Are
you looking for direction in your life? Come and rediscover the
gift of Adoration. Meditate before our Lord Jesus Christ in the
Blessed Sacrament and lay your cares and needs before Him. The
next Young Adult Holy Hour will be held in the main church
at 7:30pm on Friday, April 24th. It will be lead by our very own
pastor, Fr. Bob Cilinski. There will be meditative music, a short

THE EASTER SEASON –
We are well into celebrating the “50 Days of
Easter”. During this time the glorious
colors and decorations will remain and
“Alleluia” will be heard throughout the
Mass. Also you might notice that the
scripture readings have changed. Up until the Feast of
Pentecost, the First Reading from Scripture will be from
the Acts of the Apostles, not from the Books of the Old
Testament. The Acts of the Apostles, written by St.
Luke, describe the very first days of Christianity and give
witness to the actions and presence of the Holy Spirit
through Peter and Paul and all the disciples of Christ. It
tells the story of how the fledgling church reached out to
help orphans and widows, the needy and those who were
ill. It even describes some of the tensions that arose
concerning just who could become a follower of Christ.
Very importantly, it describes the origin of Deacons,
those who were, and are, called to aid in the ministry of
the Church. For first and foremost, the Church is called
to reach out to others who are in need, following in the
footsteps of Jesus. This Diaconate Ministry has survived
through the centuries and takes a vital part in today’s
Church. With this in mind, we take this opportunity to
remind all of our parishioners that if you know of
someone who is unable to come to Mass because of
illness or disability, to please notify the parish office to
make arrangements for that person to receive the
Sacraments. This is one way that we continue the work
of the Holy Spirit just as in the early days of the Church.

¿QUÉ HEMOS HECHO DEL DOMINGO?

¿Tenéis algo qué comer?
A los de Emaús, y a los discípulos,
atormentados, temerosos o llenos de
dudas, Jesús se les apareció para
fortalecerles y abrirles los ojos en
aquello que tanto insistió antes de su
pasión y muerte: la resurrección.
Sus visiones posteriores, especialmente en la fracción del pan, no
pretendieron otra cosa sino darles muestras de que El era en
persona. Que todo lo anunciado se cumplía. Que, aquel Señor que
había compartido confidencias y paseos, sufrimientos y alegrías, se
presentaba en medio ofreciéndoles lo que el mundo no da: paz.
Desde entonces, cada domingo, para los cristianos –no solamente
es el Día del Señor- es el momento en el que ponemos en paz todas
las cosas: las de cada uno, las de los demás y las de todos con Dios.
¿Qué hemos hecho del domingo? Es una interpelación que debiera
de marcar la conciencia de todo católico. De los que venimos a la
Eucaristía y de aquellos que, por diversas razones, la han dejado.
¿Qué hemos hecho con el Día del Señor?
2.Recientemente, en las más altas capas de decisiones políticas de
Europa, se hablaba de la necesidad de recuperar el Domingo como
algo constitutivo y genuino del viejo continente. Entre otras cosas
porque, el domingo, corre el riesgo de quedarse en un día ordinario.
En una jornada que ya no está marcada por el descanso, la familia o
el realizar algo extraordinario. Muchos, y con razón, comienzan la
semana diciendo: “estoy más cansado que el viernes”. Y es que,
desde diversas vertientes, se nos insta –consciente o
inconscientemente- a ensalzar aspectos deportivos, de ocio o de
simple holganza, en detrimento del valor sagrado.
¿A qué se debe? Ni más ni menos que hemos olvidado lo que ha
sido motivación y algo sagrado de este séptimo día: además del
descanso, el glorificar a Dios.
Sorprendía, no hace muchos días, una campaña lanzada por la
Iglesia de Norte-América: “Es hora de volver”. Con ello, a través
de la televisión, invitaban a los católicos alejados de la práctica
dominical, a volver a la casa del Señor. A la Eucaristía. A la
escucha de la Palabra.
Tal vez estamos en un momento, muy apropiado, para insistir en
los nuestros, en nuestras familias, a nuestros hijos o vecinos sobre
una realidad: para que el Señor aparezca en nuestra vida cotidiana,
tenemos que sentarnos de nuevo a escuchar su Palabra.
Reconquistar el sentido cristiano del Domingo. Dejar a un lado (o
combinarlas con la fe) ciertas actividades que entorpecen o
ensombrecen lo más genuino de este día: la referencia a Dios.
El Domingo, bien vivido y celebrado, es una posibilidad para
encontrarnos frente a frente con el resucitado. Es un cauce para
hallar la paz interior y exterior. Es motivo de fiesta y de alegría. De
cantar y expresar lo que la Pascua fluye por sus cuatro costados: la
presencia de Jesucristo muerto y resucitado.

¡ES EL SEÑOR!

En un cuento hasídico recogido por Martin Buber y que tiene como título «El juego del escon-dite», el nieto de Rabí
Baruch, un anciano rabino, jugaba un día al escondite con otro niño. Estuvo escondido mucho tiempo pensando que su
compañero le estaba buscando hasta que, cansado de esperar, salió de su escondite y corrió llo-rando a contarle a su abuelo,
el anciano rabí, que su amigo ni siquiera se había puesto a buscarle. Los ojos de Rabí Baruch se llenaron también de
lágrimas y dijo: «Eso es también lo que dice el Señor: "Me escondo y nadie me busca..."».
«Se apareció Jesús»
En los relatos pascuales de los Evange-lios hay algo de este juego: el Resucitado aparece
repentinamente «bajo otra figura» a dos discípulos, como dice Marcos (16,12), se acerca bajo la
apariencia de un peregri-no a los de Emaús (Le 24,15) o de un jardi-nero a María Magdalena (Jn
20,11-15). El resucitado aparece como quien desaparece. Es el mismo Jesús, pero no es lo mismo. La
nueva presencia abre los ojos de los discí-pulos; les hace ver y entender de una ma-nera nueva. Les
hace pasar del miedo y de la duda a la confianza.
Es el tránsito del «no conocer» al «reco-nocer» lo que envuelve a los discípulos en el dinamismo pascual y los hace pasar
de un estado de indigencia a otro en el que les desborda la plenitud del gozo. En la escena del lago (Jn 21,1-14), la fa-tiga
estéril de los pescadores en la noche es su manera de experimentar la ausencia de un Jesús que se esconde. El «no» con que
responden a la pregunta del desconocido que está en la orilla y pregunta: «Muchachos, ¿tenéis pescado?», resume una
situación ce-rrada, y casi les arranca una confesión de conciencia desdichada de la que no parece haber salida.
Es de noche en medio del lago. Y ellos es-tán buscando al Maestro sin saberlo.
«¡Es el Señor!»
El amanecer acompaña la presencia de Jesús en la orilla y el dato de la luz nos in-troduce en una situación nueva y abierta:
comienza el día, se escucha una palabra y la red desborda de peces. La luz llega a los ojos de Juan y le hace salir de Id
oscuridad y entrar en el reconocimiento: «¡Es el Se-ñor!» (Jn 21,7).
Pedro salta al agua porque reconocer en Israel no pertenece sólo al ámbito de la inte-ligencia, sino que afecta y compromete
la vi-da entera: conocer al Señor es conocer su in-terpelación, es entrar en una relación de obediencia rendida.
El final de la escena refleja la situación transfigurada: el trabajo se ha vuelto fe-cundo, los discípulos se apiñan en torno a
aquél que ha congregado su dispersión y ha vuelto a reunirlos en una comida fra-terna. La conversión a la que convoca la
Pascua está insinuada en un verbo ya fa-miliar: «Ninguno se atrevía a preguntarle: ¿quién eres?, porque sabían que era el Se
-ñor» (Jn 21,12).
«Es gloria de Dios ocultar un proyecto, es gloria de reyes descubrirlo» (Prov 25,2) sen-tenciaba la sabiduría tradicional.
La novedad de la Pascua va más allá del viejo proverbio: la verdadera gloria está en acoger con asombro agradecido que,
cuando jugamos con Dios, el juego termina en en-cuentro pero no como fruto del esfuerzo de nuestra búsqueda, sino como
un regalo in-merecido.

¿Te cuesta creer en la Resurrección?

La alegría de saber que Jesús está vivo, la esperanza que llena el corazón, no se pueden contener.
Reflexionesmos hoy en unas palabras de SS Francisco en su primera Catequesis durante el Año de la Fe:
Los primeros testigos de la Resurrección fueron mujeres. Al amanecer, van al sepulcro para ungir
el cuerpo de Jesús, y encontraron al primer signo: el sepulcro vacío (cf. Mc. 16,1). Esto es
seguido por un encuentro con un mensajero de Dios que anuncia: Jesús de Nazaret, el
crucificado, no está aquí, ha resucitado (cf. vv 5-6.). Las mujeres se sienten impulsadas por el
amor y saben cómo acoger este anuncio con fe: creen, y de inmediato lo transmiten; no lo
retienen para sí mismas, sino que lo transmiten. La alegría de saber que Jesús está vivo, la
esperanza que llena su corazón, no se pueden contener.
Esto también debería suceder en nuestras vidas: ¡Sintamos la alegría de ser cristianos!
¡Creemos en un Resucitado que ha vencido el mal y la muerte! ¡Tengamos el valor de "salir" para
llevar esta alegría y esta luz a todos los lugares de nuestra vida! La resurrección de Cristo es nuestra mayor certeza; ¡es el
tesoro más preciado!
¿Cómo no compartir con otros este tesoro, esta certeza? No es solo para nosotros, es para transmitirlo, para dárselo a
los demás, compartirlo con los demás. Es nuestro propio testimonio.
En las profesiones de fe del Nuevo Testamento, como testigos de la Resurrección se recuerda solo a los hombres, a
los Apóstoles, pero no a las mujeres. Esto se debe a que, de acuerdo con la ley judía de la época, las mujeres y los niños no
podían dar un testimonio fiable, creíble.
En los evangelios, sin embargo, las mujeres tienen un papel primordial, fundamental. Aquí podemos ver un
elemento a favor de la historicidad de la resurrección: si se tratara de un hecho inventado, en el contexto de aquel tiempo, no
hubiera estado ligado al testimonio de las mujeres. Los evangelistas sin embargo, narran simplemente lo que sucedió: las
mujeres son las primeras testigos.
Esto nos dice que Dios no escoge según los criterios humanos: los primeros testigos del nacimiento de Jesús son
los pastores, gente sencilla y humilde; los primeros testigos de la resurrección son las mujeres. Y esto es hermoso. ¡Y esto es
un poco la misión de las madres, de las mujeres! Dar testimonio a sus hijos, a sus nietos, que Jesús está vivo, que es la
vida, que resucitó.
¡Mamás y mujeres, adelante con este testimonio! Para Dios cuenta el corazón, el cuánto estamos abiertos a Él, si
acaso somos como niños que se confían.
Pero esto también nos hace reflexionar sobre cómo las mujeres, en la Iglesia y en el camino de la fe, han tenido y
tienen también hoy un rol especial en la apertura de las puertas al Señor, en el seguirlo y en el comunicar su Rostro, porque
la mirada de la fe tiene siempre la necesidad de la mirada simple y profunda del amor.
A los Apóstoles y a los discípulos les resulta más difícil creer. A las mujeres no. Pedro corre a la tumba, pero se
detiene ante la tumba vacía; Tomás debe tocar con sus manos las heridas del cuerpo de Jesús. También en nuestro camino
de fe es importante saber y sentir que Dios nos ama, no tener miedo de amarlo: la fe se confiesa con la boca y con el
corazón, con la palabra y con el amor.
Después de las apariciones a las mujeres, les siguen otras: Jesús se hace presente de un modo nuevo: es el
Crucificado, pero su cuerpo es glorioso; no ha vuelto a la vida terrenal, sino que lo hace en una condición nueva.
Al principio no lo reconocen, y solo a través de sus palabras y sus gestos sus ojos se abren: el encuentro con Cristo
resucitado transforma, da nuevo vigor a la fe, un fundamento inquebrantable. Incluso para nosotros, hay muchos indicios de
que el Señor resucitado se da a conocer: la Sagrada Escritura, la Eucaristía y los demás sacramentos, la caridad, los gestos
de amor que llevan un rayo del Resucitado.
Dejémonos iluminar por la Resurrección de Cristo, dejémonos transformar por su fuerza, para que también a través de
nosotros en el mundo, los signos de la muerte den paso a los signos de la vida.
