serve our parishioners, and this is our opportunity as a parish to make

Christ, a process for sharing faith in small groups with the

A endants in a “Field Hospital”
“I believe one of the most enlightening comments Pope Francis has made thus
far in his papacy is that the Church is a “field hospital” in the world. He believes
our community of faith is called to “heal wounds” and to “warm the hearts of the
faithful.” This is what Jesus modeled so well in the Gospels, and we are called to
ac vely par cipate in his life and ministry here and now.
As a visual person, our Holy Father’s image conjures up for me images such as
the story of the Good Samaritan, armed forces medical care units and the work
of Blessed Mother Teresa. It also brings to mind early missionaries who brought
Chris anity to people around the globe. I find the idea of a “field hospital”
a endant somewhat overwhelming. But being good stewards of the Gospel, we
are called to stand with and to serve our brothers and sisters during some of the
most diﬃcult mes in their lives. This is a tremendous challenge and yet a sacred
honor.
Recently, I was selected to serve as a juror in a criminal case. It was my first
experience and I found it an unse ling and emo onal experience for me. The
fears and tears of witnesses as well as the defendant brought a very human and
vulnerable dimension to this legal process. Though the outcome of the trial was
based on the evidence and tes mony provided, for me, the face of Jesus was
everywhere in the courtroom.
A er the trial concluded, I wondered if any of those who par cipated in the
trial were ministered to in some way by the “field hospital” workers in their
respec ve parishes or worshipping communi es. Was anyone visited, prayed for
or given a compassionate ear and encouragement? I certainly hope so. There was
so much opportunity here.

thank those who have special gi s of empathy, compassion, courage, and love,
and use them to be Jesus in the world. And, I ask you to pray with me that we
will all recognize where we are called to heal wounds and warm hearts so we can
share the love of Christ and be a witness to the Good News.”

LEVANTATE; 2ª ETAPA “Cambiemos el Corazón”
Interesado en ser parte de un Grupo de Pequeña Comunidad?
Estamos viviendo ya segunda etapa de Levántate, un
proceso de compartir la Fe en Pequeñas comunidades, con la
única intención de crecer en la fe y nuestra relación con Jesús.
Asistentes en un “Hospital de Campaña”
Creo que uno de los comentarios más edificantes que ha hecho el Papa Francisco a lo
largo de su papado, es que la Iglesia es un “hospital de campaña” en el mundo. Él cree
que nuestra comunidad de fe es llamada a “curar las heridas” y a “acoger los corazones
de los fieles.” Esto es lo que Jesús estableció muy bien como modelo en los
Evangelios, y nosotros somos llamados a participar activamente en su vida y ministerio
aquí y ahora.
Como persona visual, la imagen de nuestro Santo Padre evoca en mí imágenes como la
historia del Buen Samaritano, las unidades médicas de las fuerzas armadas y el trabajo
de la Beata Madre Teresa. También trae a mi mente a los primeros misioneros que
llevaron el cristianismo a gente de todos los lugares del mundo. Encuentro la idea de
un asistente de “hospital de campaña” un tanto abrumadora. Pero, siendo buenos
corresponsables del Evangelio, nosotros somos llamados a levantarnos y servir a
nuestros hermanos y hermanas durante algunos de los tiempos más difíciles en sus
vidas. Este es un tremendo desafío, y sin embargo, un honor sagrado. Recientemente,
fui seleccionada para servir como jurado en el caso de un crimen. Esta fue mi primera
experiencia, y encontré que fue perturbadora y emocional para mí. Los temores y
lágrimas de los testigos así como la defensa, llevó este proceso legal a una dimensión
muy humana y vulnerable. Aunque el resultado del juicio estaba basado en la evidencia
y el testimonio proveído, para mí, el rostro de Jesús estaba en todas partes de la sala del
tribunal. Después de concluido el juicio, me pregunté si alguno de quienes participaron
en él fueron atendidos de alguna manera por los trabajadores del “hospital de
campaña” en sus respectivas parroquias o comunidades de culto. ¿Fue alguien visitado,
recibió oraciones o tuvo a alguien que le escuchara compasivamente e infundiera
valor? Ciertamente espero que así sea. Había mucha oportunidad aquí. Hasta el regreso
de Jesús, nuestra Iglesia necesitará siempre ser un “hospital de campaña.” Agradezco a
aquellos que tienen los dones especiales de empatía, compasión, valor y amor, y los
usan para ser Jesús en el mundo. Y les pido que oren conmigo para que todos
reconozcamos dónde somos llamados a curar las heridas y acoger corazones para que
así nosotros podamos compartir el amor de Cristo y ser testigos de las Buenas Nuevas.
