New Jerseys’ Highest Branch of Odd Fellowship, The Canton, also known as the Patriarch Militants. Membership is open to an Encampment member who has attained the Royal Purple Degree. The name “Patriarchs Militant” conveys the two-fold idea of peace and soldierly valor. This branch is semi-military in character and formed solely for the purposes of chivalric display. Members are admirably fulfilling its mission through the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” dedication ceremonies held in Washington DC, Canada and other military dedication ceremonies The Samaritan 3 conducted by Odd Fellows in various countries worldwide. Welcome to our newest members: GM Guido Miranda, GP Roman Pastor, Raul Rodriquez and Thomas Calabrese. If you are interested in becoming a Chevalier, please contact me at [email protected] and join us at our next meeting which will be held April 29th at Burlington Lodge. The Canton meets on the 5th Wednesday of every month. Normally we meet in Gloucester, NJ, but since we are the only Canton in the State we occasionally move the location of our meetings. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Burger family for the passing of our brother Lenny Burger. May he rest in peace. En A., A., & V., Pastor Román, Gran Patriarca Enhancing The Order Takes Many Task Masters I n the past days, the members of the Grand Lodge, the Grand Encampment, and the Rebekah Assembly have had many commitments to meet. We have been present at almost all the Christmas parties in the State of New Jersey, attended the New Year’s gift exchange in Amor y Verdad Lodge No. 118, and finished with the Christmas party of the Alvarez de Portal Lodge No. 285; which was held at DON RAMON Restaurant, with an attendance of more than 200 people. After these activities, we then concentrated on family festivities with siblings and children and quietly spent the year’s end at home. After finishing the year, we tackled with more vigor the work of the Lodge and Encampment, a task has again been entrusted to us, the secretary of the Testimonial Dinner of sister Marcia López-Araujo, President of the Rebekah Assembly of the State of New Jersey. There are many tasks to be fulfilled for the enhancement of our Order. Another task is compiling reports or creating write-ups on The Samaritan 4 the fraternal life of Oddfellow Cuban brothers in other countries. This is at the request of the Grand Lodge of Cuba and it also goes towards our efforts to bring to these Cuban brothers knowledge about the fraternity of the Independent Order of Oddfellows in the United States. Soon we’ll have the installation of the new officers of our Encampment Michael Popik Jr. And there awaits us the post of Secretary, which Patriarch Hermes Gutiérrez declined to hold due to health issues; as per our responsible demeanor, we didn’t hesitate to accept a position so important in a Lodge or Encampment. The nominations of the Grand Lodge of the State of New Jersey are fast approaching and see us in the nomination list for the post of Deputy Grand Master, this would directly lead, within a year and half, to occupying the post of Grand Master; which with God’s favor we will try to faithfully execute. In F., L., & T., Pastor Román, Grand Patriarch Chef Robér’s Secret Ingredient Is the Key To Spaghetti Success!
