EQUITANA 2015 – A major step for APPEL
Dear Members of APPEL,
From 14 to 22 March 2015, the association APPEL presented the Ecole de Légèreté at
EQUITANA, the world’s largest horse fair, which drew 208 000 visitors to Essen in Germany –
with great success!
Thanks to your membership fees and promotional contributions, as well as to the commitment of
our many helpers and active participants, the association was able to act as exhibitor at
EQUITANA for the first time.
Visitors to EQUITANA experienced the Ecole de Légèreté on the nine days in the big show arena
of Hall 6, the competence forum in Hall 1A as well as in the training ring and at the information
booth in Hall 10/11.
On 16 and 17 March, Philippe Karl presented six of his licensed instructors in the show arena of
Hall 6 and gave insights into the riding philosophy of the Ecole de Légèreté, from the warming-up
work up to High School exercises. In the first part, Philippe Karl commented and explained the
principles of his dressage concept to the audience. In the second part, the riders presented a
show to classical music.
While the special atmosphere of the well-attended show arena still caused some tension and
nervousness in horses and riders in the first presentation on Monday, the harmony of Légèreté
was fully apparent on Tuesday, inspiring and enthralling the audience. At the end of the
demonstration, the riders lined up in a semicircle around Philippe Karl to thank him for his
teaching, making for an expressive and emotional moment. The audience acknowledged the
presentation of the Ecole de Légèreté with much applause.
In the equally well-attended competence forum, Philippe Karl impressed with a one-hour lecture
on “Collection – Dream and Reality”. He analysed the concept of the shortening of the horse’s
frame, which forms the basis of the official dressage’s view of collection, in detail and showed by
means of research results in biomechanics and kinematics that the official concept is not
sustainable – because as long as the horse is collecting in forward movement, he cannot shorten
his support base from behind.
The demonstrations in the training ring in Hall 10/11, close to the information booth of APPEL,
were performed twice a day for 15 minutes by other licensed instructors and their students.
Together with their young or advanced students on horses of different breeds, the instructors
presented a wide range of the practical work according to the training plan of the Ecole de
Légèreté, thus offering the spectators first insights into the philosophy of Légèreté. After the
presentations in the training ring, many spectators who were impressed by the performances
visited the booth of APPEL to know more about the dressage concept of the Ecole de Légèreté.
The 12 square metre information booth of APPEL was located in close vicinity to the book and
video publishers Pferdia TV and Cadmos. Many visitors took the opportunity to have their books
and DVDs signed by Philippe Karl in person at the booth of the association. The promotional
flyers of licensed instructors on display at the booth were very much in demand and had to be
refilled several times. The booth of APPEL was the central point of the presentation of the Ecole
de Légèreté during the entire fair. The dedicated exhibition team was at the disposal of all
interested visitors and participants at any time to answer questions and provide information about
the School and the association.
In summary, after Hansepferd 2014 in Hamburg and Fieracavalli 2014 in Verona, the EQUITANA
project was again a real challenge for the association APPEL. The great interest and positive
feedback made the EQUITANA another success for the School and are also an incentive for all
other projects aiming to spread the philosophy of Légèreté around the world.

EQUITANA 2015 – Ein großer Schritt für APPEL
Liebe Mitglieder des Fördervereins APPEL,
vom 14. bis 22. März 2015 präsentierte der Förderverein APPEL die Ecole de Légèreté in Essen
auf der weltgrößten Pferdemesse, der EQUITANA mit 208 000 Besuchern – mit viel Erfolg!
Dank Ihrer Mitglieds- und Förderbeiträge sowie des großen Engagements unserer vielen Helfer
und aktiven Teilnehmer konnte der Förderverein erstmals als Hauptaussteller auf der EQUITANA
agieren.
Die Besucher der EQUITANA erlebten die Ecole de Légèreté an den neun Messetagen im
Großen Ring der Halle 6, im Kompetenzforum in der Halle 1A sowie im Ausbildungsring und am
Infostand in der Halle 10/11.
Am 16. und 17. März stellte Philippe Karl persönlich sechs seiner lizenzierten Ausbilder in der
Showarena der Halle 6 vor und gab Einblicke in die Reitphilosophie der Ecole de Légèreté. Die
Zuschauer konnten von der Lösungsarbeit bis hin zu hohen Lektionen an seiner Lehre teilhaben.
Im ersten Teil kommentierte und erklärte Philippe Karl dem Publikum die Grundlagen seines
Ausbildungskonzepts. Im zweiten Teil zeigten die Reiter eine Kür zu klassischer Musik.
Führte die besondere Atmosphäre der gut besuchten Showarena beim ersten Auftritt am Montag
noch zu Spannungen und Nervosität bei Pferd und Reiter, konnte am Dienstag die Harmonie der
Légèreté in vollem Maße wirken und das Publikum begeistern. Die Reiter stellten sich am Ende
der Vorführung im Halbkreis um Philippe Karl, um ihm für seinen Unterricht zu danken, und
sorgten so für einen ausdrucksvollen und emotionalen Moment. Die Zuschauer quittierten den
Auftritt der Ecole de Légèreté mit viel Beifall.
Im voll besetzten Kompetenzforum überzeugte Philippe Karl mit einem einstündigen Vortrag zum
Thema „Versammlung – Wunsch und Wirklichkeit“. Er analysierte das Konzept der
Rahmenverkürzung, das der offiziellen Vorstellung von Versammlung zugrunde liegt, im Detail
und zeigte anhand von Forschungsergebnissen der Biomechanik und Kinematik, dass das
offizielle Konzept nicht tragbar ist – denn solange das Pferd sich in der Vorwärtsbewegung
versammelt, kann es seine Stützbasis nicht von hinten verkürzen.
Die Vorführungen im Ausbildungsring der Halle 10/11, in der sich auch der Infostand von APPEL
befand, wurden zweimal täglich mit einem 15-minütigen Auftritt von weiteren lizenzierten
Ausbildern und ihren Schülern bestritten. Mit jungen und fortgeschrittenen Schülern auf Pferden
unterschiedlichster Rassen präsentierten die Ausbilder ein breites Spektrum der praktischen
Arbeit aus dem Ausbildungsplan der Ecole de Légèreté und ermöglichten den Zuschauern so
erste Einblicke in die Philosophie der Légèreté. Nach den Präsentationen im Ausbildungsring
fanden sich immer neue Interessierte am Stand ein, die von den Vorführungen beindruckt waren
und mehr über das Ausbildungskonzept der Ecole de Légèreté erfahren wollten.
Der Infostand von APPEL präsentierte sich auf einer Ausstellungsfläche von 12 qm in direkter
Nachbarschaft zu den Fach- und Verlagshäusern Pferdia TV und Cadmos. Viele Messebesucher
nutzten die Gelegenheit und ließen sich am Stand des Fördervereins Bücher und DVDs von
Philippe Karl persönlich signieren. Die ausgelegten Flyer der Ausbildungs- und Kursangebote
vieler lizenzierter Ausbilder fanden regen Absatz und mussten mehrfach nachgelegt werden. Der
Infostand von APPEL war über die gesamte Messezeit Mittelpunkt des Auftritts der Ecole de
Légèreté. Den interessierten Messebesuchern sowie allen Teilnehmern stand das überaus
engagierte Messeteam am Infostand für Fragen und Information jederzeit zur Verfügung.
Fazit: Das Projekt EQUITANA war nach der HansePferd 2014 in Hamburg und der Fieracavalli
2014 in Verona wieder eine echte Herausforderung für den Förderverein. Das große Interesse
und das positive Feedback machten auch die EQUITANA zu einem Erfolg für die Schule und sind
gleichzeitig Ansporn für alle weiteren Projekte, den Gedanken der Légèreté weiter in die Welt zu
tragen.
