a staff of 18 people, a small
group of clients, and a limited
number of programs and services.
Now, thanks to hard work,
dedication, and commitment
Leg Up Farm has grown in many
ways. A staff of 41 now help
our families, making sure your
experience at Leg Up Farm is
nothing but the best.
We have served more than
1,000 children, added programs, services, buildings, and
outdoor spaces, all to provide a
unique, one-of-a-kind, facility.
We are very proud of the
progress we have
made as a facility and
the progress we have
seen our children
make over the last 4
years.

from you and share in
the development of
your child. If you have

April is National Occupational Therapy
Month and we are celebrating our occupational therapists and occupational therapy
assistants at Leg Up Farm! Every day, they
dedicate themselves to helping our children live their lives to the fullest.
According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc.,
“occupational therapists and occupational
therapy assistants help people across the
lifespan participate in the things they
want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities
(occupations).”
For most children, their primary occupation is play. For this reason, our OTs have
a lot of equipment and tools that allow
them to work on improving the child’s
skills through play. Their developmental
needs may include sensory processing,
fine-motor function and handwriting skills,
ocular-motor
performance,
visualperceptual function,
self help and feeding
skills, and cognitive
development.
These are Leg Up Farm’s wonderful occupational therapists: Susan Danner, Melissa
Maley, Danielle Ramus, Danielle Seibert,
and Laura Cunningham, and Sarah Terry.
Our amazing certified occupational therapy
assistants are: Tracy Kimball and Ashley
Perigo. The next time you see one of them,
please show your appreciation for what they are
doing to help our children.
Thank you, occupational therapists, for your
hard work!
Volunteers are essential to the success of
Leg Up Farm. In 2013, we provided more
than 20,000 therapy appointments and
volunteers played an important role.
Whether you want to volunteer in the barn
to assist in therapeutic riding lessons, or
help the therapists as a therapy aide, we
have a position and a need. Consider
giving your time while your child is in
therapy to pull weeds or help maintain
one of our beautiful gardens.
If your church, company, or organization would like to support Leg Up Farm,
please contact Jessica Warns at
[email protected] for information.
In January, Leg Up Farm became the
home of the first Equestrian Team for
Special Olympics in York County. Over the
last few weeks, we have been lucky
enough to see these athletes learn about
the program, and develop their skills as
they train to compete in local and state-
wide competitions. As we begin our next
training session, we are hosting an Open

The Spring is a great time to get
involved at Leg Up Farm. Whether you can
come out to one of our events, pitch in at
our clean up day, or weed the flower beds,
we are always looking for people to help.
One way you can give back is to pick
up an item from our wish list. The wish
list has a variety of items we need for
daily activities, summer camp, equine
services, and more. You can look at our
wish list by visiting smile.amazon.com and
looking up Leg Up Farm. There you can
find our wish list and any item you buy
through the Amazon Smile page, they will
donate 0.5% back to Leg Up Farm. Some
items from the wish list include:

Fragrance Free Baby Wipes

Rainbow Colored Tissue Paper

Play-Doh

Lunge Lines
House for new volunteers on March 29th
from 10am-12pm at Leg Up Farm.
Interested volunteers will help athletes
learn to compete. No experience is
necessary and we will train you!
Thank you for your generosity and
for making Leg Up Farm a true
community.

we can do so much.”— Helen Keller
