Celebrating achievements
Tuesday this week we had a group of children head off to represent Larmenier at the
Interschool cross country. Before they headed off I witnessed children volunteering and
agreeing very happily to fill places that were left vacant by sick children and parents
agreeably running coats and shorts to school so children could participate. On their return I
spoke to a number of students who were full of exciting tales of who came second, third,
twenty fifth, twenty ninth and who they were. It was such a God moment to see the
pleasure that those in the team seemed to get from watching others do well. Team spirit
was evidently strong and proud in these students.
!
The great thing about schools today is their ability to provide a variety of opportunities in
which children can shine. Whilst a schools main focus will always be on the academic
education of students, it is those who struggle academically who often shine in other areas.
There is nothing better as a parent or a teacher than watching a child, whether they are
your own or not, find something that they are good at. The confidence they gain, the
‘something’ that develops in them gives them a sense of pride, a sense of achievement is
always evident on their face when you watch them speak about it. For some this is as
simple as learning one of their Magic 100 word colours, for others it is tricks on a bike or
skateboard. As parents many of us provide opportunities for our children to grow and
explore interests outside the school. At Larmenier, we are able to provide a host of
opportunities too, from our farm program experiences through to band, tennis, sporting
clinics, community service programs, choirs and the list goes on. Our school vision is
“For Lamenier Catholic Primary School to live out it’s motto, Christ is our model, by
being a living, loving and learning community” and this is a daily focus of all who work
in the school. Allowing children to explore and learn what their limitations and strengths
may be, is all part of a life long learning process. The diversity in our children and what
they bring to our school is a delight to behold!

Reports
Reports will be handed out on Thursday 3rd July, the second
last day of term. Should you wish to talk to a teacher about
your child’s report, appointments with teachers can be made for
Term 3. Any second copies that have been requested can be
collected from the school office.
Should your family
circumstances have changed and a second copy is required, just
let your child’s class teacher or the office know.

School uniform
We have recently had a few comments about how good our
students look in their uniforms. Our uniform is unique and
identifies us immediately as Larmenier. Lets wear our uniform
with pride - shirts tucked in, top buttons on shirts done up so
ties sit correctly, blazers on when travelling to and from school.
!
A reminder of the correct sandshoes, as it seems there are a
few sneaking back in with the wrong ones and it is not fair to
those parents and students doing the right thing and in some
cases purchasing two pairs of shoes to make sure they had a
pair to fit the uniform policy. Also the correct black shoes,
with the sneaker style not being acceptable.
10% off vouchers are available for Sports Arena from the
uniform shop and office.
All families are invited to attend this
special Mass.
Please keep the candidates in your prayers.
When: Saturday 28th June at 6:30pm
Where: St Peter’s Church, Kings Meadows
Supper to follow. Please bring a plate to share.
Congratulations to the following candidates

Dear Parents,
Next week on Thursday the 26th of June the SRC will hold
a fundraising day to raise money for a charity yet to be
decided.
For a GOLD COIN DONATION, children may come to
school on that day wearing a crazy hat or with a crazy hairdo. Normal school uniform is to be worn (unless your class
has a farm day) and no face paint is allowed.
Please join in and help us to raise money for this worthy
cause.
In Term 3, children in Grade 3 or above, who are intending to receive
the Sacrament of Reconciliation, will begin their preparation. If you
would like your child/ren to be involved this year, please fill out the
form below and return to the school office, or Mrs. Fontyn, in Grade
Four, by this Friday, 27th June.

Grade 2 farm day
12th June, 2014
On farm day we chased chickens and
clipped their wings. Then we went into
the garden and planted a kind of tomato.
When the tomato is green it is poisonous.
When the tomato is yellow it is very good.
It is a special sort of food for the native
people. It is native to Tasmania. It can
be turned into a kind of syrup that can
be put on pancakes.
After that we had recess. It was apple
cinnamon muffins.
We also had
chocolate and beetroot muffins.
Then we went into the classroom. We
made pictures of goats, cows, chickens
and pigs. I made a cow because I have
cows on my farm. We also made grass
head people. Then we had lunch. It was
soda bread and pumpkin soup with
pasta. It was yummy!
The last thing we did was the kitchen. We
made buns. It was fun at Grade two
farm day!
By Freja Doolan
On the 12th of June Grade two had a
farm day. Ny group did gardening.
First we got to chase the chickens and
I got to cut their wings. For recess we
had apple muffins and beetroot
muffins. Ny favourite muffin was the
apple muffin.
The next thing my group did was craft.
We got to draw a snowman and
painted it with Nrs Hollingsworth. We
got to choose to do a cow, goat, pig or
a chicken. I chose a goat.
For lunch we had pumpkin soup and
soda bread and pasta with cheese. I
liked the pumpkin soup.
The last thing my group did was
cooking in the old staffroom.
We
cooked silver beet and cheese pin
wheels, they were my favourite thing,
It was my best farm day I had ever
had!

Industrial Action
Following a breakdown in enterprise bargaining negotiations between Tasmanian Catholic education
employing authorities and the Independent Education Union (IEU), the IEU sought protected industrial
action for its members from the Fair Work Commission (FWC).
In accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009, we received due notice late Thursday of last week that
protected industrial action may now be taken in Catholic schools throughout the State. A ballot
conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission and authorised by the FWC resulted in members of the
IEU deciding in favour of taking the following protected actions:
•
•
•
•
An unlimited number of four (4) hour stoppages of work;
An unlimited number of twenty-four hour stoppages of work;
Distributing information to parents about the action and bargaining; and
Wearing campaign material and / or badges.
Some or all of these actions are expected to take place in many of our schools over the next month or so
and, perhaps, beyond that time.
Parents, guardians and carers can rest assured that their school will continue to be open for business as
usual, and that every care will be taken to ensure that children are well supervised and engaged in
meaningful activities, even if all their usual classes are not possible because of reduced staffing. It is our
intention to have our schools as fully functioning and focussed on learning programs as possible.
The Principal and senior school / college leaders will be on duty and actively taking leadership of staff in
providing for students’ needs during this period of industrial action.
A number of staff (IEU Members only) may not be in attendance during the hours of any work
stoppage/s, and it important that their right to engage in what is legitimate and protected industrial
action is respected by all members of the school community.
Thankyou in anticipation of your understanding and cooperation in making the best of what are
challenging circumstances.
Dr Trish Hindmarsh
Director
