RCI NZ – South Island Christmas Camp
Fri 26th Dec 2014 – Fri 2nd Jan 2015
'He is precious’
The South Island Chrismas camp will once again be held at Hanmer Springs Forest Camp. Come and be
refreshed and built up in the Spirit in this beautiful alpine environment. Bring your testimonies, items and
skits, and a desire to edify and encourage your brethren. There are several meetings planned with
fellowship and other activities throughout the week. General theme for camp: 1st Peter 2:7 'He is precious'.
DATES
Friday 26th December (check-in after 2pm) to Friday 2nd January (10am check-out)
PLANNED ACTIVITIES
Camps are a good opportunity for us to leave our usual routine for a while, and put extra time into seeking
the Lord. As such our camps are centred on the Lord and we enjoy a good focus on meetings, to gather
and hear the Word of God and share his testimonies. We also enjoy a time of praying in the Spirit together
in the mornings. Outside of meeting times, there are many activities to enjoy in and around Hanmer
Springs. There is space at the camp for various outdoor games, so bring your favourite sports gear and also
indoor games in case of rain. There is also a large children’s adventure playground with a petanque area.
Remember to bring testimonies, skits & items etc for the New Year's eve concert night.
HAMMER SPRINGS FOREST CAMP www.hanmerforestcamp.co.nz
The forest camp is located 2.5 kms up Jollies Pass road in the heart of the Hanmer Springs Forest
(directions to Hanmer Springs below). It is situated on 10 acres of land surrounded by forest. Our main
accommodation at the camp is the ‘Ensor Lodge’ which comprises 24 rooms in 3 wings set around a central
courtyard area. There are several larger rooms suitable for families, but most rooms have 2 sets of bunks (4
beds). These are quite new and comfortable. All these cabins are wheelchair accessible and there are two
wheelchair accessible showers and toilets (one either side of the courtyard).
This year we are also hiring the Abilities Lodge, which has 5 large rooms with varying bunk configurations.
We also have access to some smaller cabins with 2 beds if we need extra rooms (same camp fees apply).
This year we can accommodate around 120 people.
All rooms have mattresses, pillows (and heaters) but you need to bring bedding. We have use of a full-sized
commercial kitchen with a dining room and adjacent lounge, as well as the camp's recreation hall for our
meetings. There are separate toilet and shower facilities with plenty of hot water, a laundry for washing and
a large drying room, with plenty of outdoor washing lines.
CAMP DUTIES
Our camp chores are rostered, including meal preparation, kitchen duties and night patrol / security during
meetings. Please check the notice board on arrival (inside dining area) to see when you are on duty (most
people will be required to help).

The fees cover accommodation and meals for 7 nights, including dinner Friday 26 th to breakfast Friday 2nd.
Please try to pay your fees direct into the camp account before camp (please clearly identify internet

Hanmer Springs is located in a unique alpine environment 90 minutes drive north of Christchurch. It is a
year round holiday destination offering a variety of outdoor activities, great cafes and accommodation. The
village is 380 metres above sea level, situated in the Waiau river valley surrounded by mountains. The area
is often blanketed in snow in winter and is a popular summer holiday destination offering many outdoor
activities. There are many activities to enjoy including bush walks, 4WD adventures, swimming, boating,
kayaking, bungy jumping, mountain biking etc. The village is built around the hot mineral springs, which
includes several outdoor pools (varying temperatures), a waterslide and a café.
DIRECTIONS TO HANMER SPRINGS - 135km north of Christchurch, 300km south of Picton.
• If arriving via Christchurch, drive north on State Highway (SH) 1 for approximately 45 minutes until
you come to the turnoff for SH 7 heading west (left). This road goes through to the West Coast via
the Lewis Pass and will be signposted accordingly. From this junction continue on SH 7 for about
40 minutes until you come to the turnoff on the right to Hanmer Springs.
• If coming down from Picton: go south down through Blenheim (25 min) and then the seaside town
of Kaikoura (1.5 hrs further ), then continue south to the SH 7 turnoff to the West Coast (turn right).
• As you enter Hanmer Springs, BEFORE you get to the centre of the township, turn right onto Jollies
Pass road and follow it for 2.5 kilometres to the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp (on left-hand side).
TRANSPORT
For overseas visitors the nearest International Airport is Christchurch, 1.5hrs south of Hanmer Springs.
There are many car rental companies and a shuttle service available. Free rides to camp and
accommodation with saints before and after camp should not necessarily be assumed. Please make your
own arrangements.
UNSAVED VISITORS
Please feel free to invite visitors to the camp. However all visitors should come with an intention to seek the
Lord and leave worldly influences behind (ie, no alcohol, smoking, swearing or worldly music etc). This is a
time for the saints to ‘get away from it all’ and be refreshed in the Spirit, and it is also a good opportunity for
visitors to find out about the Lord and seek him in sincerity.
