Updated: Fall 2014 Standardization Activity During the AWPA Fall Technical Committee Meetings in Portland, Maine, the committees approved 59 proposals to move forward to letter ballot for the Fall 2014 Standardization Cycle. The letter ballots opened on October 15 and closed on November 14 with greater than a 60% return rate from each committee. All negative votes were resolved except for Item T8.1. This item is currently undergoing a recirculation ballot in Committee T-8, and is scheduled to close on Friday, December 19. Current letter ballot results have been posted to the applicable Technical Committee web page (member login required). A status report for proposals is found on the Standards Activity web page. 2015 AWPA Sponsorship Enrollment is Still Open In addition to membership dues and publication sales, AWPA relies heavily upon voluntary contributions from organizations that support AWPA’s objects and purposes. Through our Organizational Sponsorship Program, AWPA recognizes its sponsors at meeting, on the website, in publications, and other printed materials. All 2014 Sponsors were sent renewal forms by email recently, and they may renew online in the AWPA Store. McGough James Downie, Environmental Consultants Inc. 2015 Student Poster Competition The Technical Forum Poster Session will take place the evening of Monday, April 13 during the Annual Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. Viance, LLC will be sponsoring the Student Poster Competition to encourage young and upcoming scientists in the field of wood protection. The author of the best poster will receive a scholarship of USD $5,000 and the runner-up will receive USD $2,500. If you are a student and you plan to present a poster, please submit the working title and a list of authors no later than Monday, February 16 for your poster to be considered for the competition. Nominations for AWPA Officers In the next few months, AWPA members will be nominating individuals to serve as Officers, Executive Committee Members, or Nominating Committee Members. The Nominating Committee has already selected its slate of nominees, but direct nominations are still available. If you know of an eligible member that would serve AWPA well in any of these positions, please submit the nomination directly to AWPA by December 31. The following “P” Standards must be reaffirmed no later than the Fall 2015 Standardization Cycle: P35, P55, P56, P57, and P58. All other classes of standards will be automatically withdrawn if not revised or reaffirmed by the Fall 2015 Standardization Cycle. The following standards are scheduled for automatic withdrawal if not revised or reaffirmed this year: A32 and A49. Please note that the deadline for Spring 2015 proposals is January 30, 2015, and the deadline for Fall 2015 proposals is July 8, 2015. 111th AWPA Annual Meeting and the Hacker’s Classic Make plans to attend AWPA’s Annual Meeting, which will take place April 12-14 in Asheville, North Carolina at the Omni Grove Park Inn. Meeting registration will begin in early January 2015. Also, be sure to take part in the 2015 Hacker’s Classic at the Donald Ross designed Grove Park Inn Golf Club with its amazing views, tree-lined fairways, receptive greens, challenging bunkers, and rolling landscape.
