28 BAHRAIN SPORT Gulf Daily News Tuesday, 6th January 2015 Manama take on Muharraq DEFENDING league champions Manama will take on cup defending champions Muharraq in the first leg of the Bahrain Zain Super Cup Championship at 7pm today at the Bahrain Basketball Association Sports Hall in Um Al Hassam. The Zain Super Cup Championship is being held annually between league and cup title holders. Manama won last season’s league title, while Muharraq won the cup title for the same season. The Super Cup Championship this season will be held in a best-of-three series, with the winner of two games n Manama claiming the crown. The other matches will be held on January 9 and 12 at the same time and venue. Manama currently are leading the league championship with 10 points from five matches, and they seem to be stronger than ever, thanks to team captain Mohammed Hussain, along with teammates Ahmed Abdulaziz, Hassan Nawrooz, Mohammed Ku- Email: [email protected] n Muharraq wayyed, Younis Kuwayyed, Ahmed Najaf, Mohammed Ameer and other young players. The team is being coached by American Sam Vincent. Muharraq, on the other hand, is being coached by Maz Trakh who was once an assistant coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and who will be looking for his first title with Muharraq. The team went through hard times in the league after some of their star players like Mohammed Hassan and Mohammed Abdulmajeed got injured during this season. Fortunately, Abdulmajeed has fully recovered and is set to play in this match. Hassan, however, will not be fit to play tonight. The other big names in the team are point guard Ahmed Hassan Al Derazi, along with Bader Abdulla, Kathim Majed, Ali Abbas, Hussain Al Moosawi, Abdulrahman Ghali and American’s Herbert Hill. Bahrain to end Australia camp THE Bahrain national soccer team will conclude its training camp in Balart City, Australia, today before heading to Melbourne to compete in the Asian Cup which kicks off on Friday. Bahrain is in Group ‘C’ with the UAE, Iran and Qatar. The Bahrain team has been in Balart City since December 26 following a five-day training camp in Kuala Lumpur. In Australia, Bahrain played two friendlies and won both, a 4-1 victory over Saudi Arabia last Tuesday and a 1-0 win over Jordan on Sunday. Bahrain begin their campaign on Saturday against Iran in Melbourne and then take on the UAE on January 15 in Canberra and finish their league engagements with a clash against Qatar in Sydney on January 19. Yesterday coach Marjan Eid held a 90-minute training session. Physical fitness specialist Dean Taylor and fitness trainer Jose Carlos tested the players physical fitness.
