Bahrain teams set
for GCC clashes
THE Bahrain national snooker and billiards teams left for
Doha yesterday to take part in
the 10th GCC Billiards Championship and 17th GCC Snooker Championship to be held
from today to December 23.
The Bahrain delegation included Bahrain Billiards and
Snooker Association public
relations director Hussain Bu
Khammas, administrator Khalid Al Azri, technical director
Saleh Mohammed and general
secretary Mohammed Al Murbati, who is the head of the del-
egation.
The Bahrain snooker team
consists of Younis Sager, Majid
Dhaif, Hamed Dhaif, Hussain
Al Aradi, Sadiq Abdulghani,
Hussain Fuad and Talal Matar.
They will compete in the under-21 section.
Abdulmonem Al Shuwaikh
will compete in the over 40
years category.
The billiards team consist of
Abdulla Isa, Raed Ahmed, Ali
Abdulkarim, Faris Abdulkarim,
Fahad Khalaf and Hussain Al
Khayyat.

the hero of the day yesterday as he clinched the
12 years and under singles title in the 12th Zain
Bahrain Junior Open Tennis Championship at Bahrain Tennis Club in
Juffair.
The Saudi Arabian beat India’s
Arvind Peemaraju with ease losing just
one game 6-0, 6-1 to lift the title in style.
In the semi-finals on Thursday, Qassim had beaten Aman Lalwani, also losing just one game, this time in the first
set, while Arvind had worked harder to
get past Bahrain’s Isa Aleesa 6-3, 6-4.
In 14 years and under boys, Etienne
Oshinowo of Canada tamed India’s Rahul Jaipdeep 6-2, 6-1 while Bahrain’s
Yousif Dhaif of Bahrain beat another
Indian Aditya Mori 6-2, 6-4.
But the most interesting and closest
match of the day was witnessed in 16
years and under boys singles.
Frank Li and Omar Captan were involved in protracted three-set tussle
which the former won after a tense battle
6-2, 2-6, 11-9.

the six and under section of the
Capital School Junior Tennis
Tournament organised by Bahrain Tennis Academy (BTA) at Dilmun Club
in Saar, yesterday.
Miles Verbeek, Rohan Mukherjee, Boudica
Vebeek and Yiorgos Hadjigeorgiou were the
eight and under finalists while the 10 and
under finalists were Kamran Mohammed,
Zubair Khan, Erwin Godinho and Rohan
Mukherjee.
The finalists will battle for the titles today.
“It was a fantastic day of tennis. The kids
performed better than expected in what
for many was their first competition. A big
thanks to our sponsor, the Capital School,
which made it possible to organise such a
great day out for the kids,” said BTA tournament director Dan Barrie.

Jiu-Jitsu
showdown
FIGHTERS from around
the world are set to fly into
Bahrain later this month to
compete in Bahrain’s Open
Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2014.
The one-day event is scheduled to take place on December 26 at Reza’s Martial Arts
Centre in Barbar.
Organisers are expecting a
minimum of 130 participants
from various countries across
the globe, including some from
the US, Russia, Syria, the
UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,
Qatar apart host country
Bahrain.
The fighters will be battling
it out in different (belts)
categories - White, Blue,
Purple and Brown belts - and
will be further divided into
weight divisions - under-65kg,
under-75kg, under-85kg, under-95kg, over-95kg and open.
The top three in each weight
division will receive medals
while valuable prizes will be
given out to each ‘Absolute
Division Champion’.
Lightweight
Those interested in taking
part must register before
Monday.
Among the high-profile
participants will be Bahraini
World Champion Ali Monfaradi, who will be coming
from Brazil where he lives and
trains. Monfaradi is a former
World Jiu Jitsu Champion in
the lightweight class and also
a runner-up in the absolute
division.
He was also a two-time
World Jiu-Jitsu bronze-medallist as well as a Pan American
and Sao Paulo Open Champion.
Reza’s Martial Arts Centre
offers top-class training in several world respected martial
arts, such as Jiu-Jitsu, Muay
Thai and Mixed Martial Arts
(MMA) among others.

the number one Jiu-Jitsu
