Creative Curriculum News: A new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics says free and unstructured play is healthy and in fact essential for helping children reach important social, emotional and cognitive development milestones as well as helping them manage stress and become resilient. Whereas play protects children’s emotional development, a loss of free time in combination with a hurried lifestyle can be a source of stress, anxiety and may even contribute to depression for many children, the AAP report states. Among the specific guidelines, the report suggests: Emphasizing the benefits of “true toys” such as blocks and dolls, in which children use their imagination fully over passive toys that require limited imagination; Supporting an appropriately challenging academic schedule for each child with a balance of extracurricular activities. This should be based on each child’s unique needs and not on competitive community standards or need to gain college admissions. Suggesting families choose childcare and early education programs that meet children’s social and emotional developmental needs as well as academic preparedness. Implementing the Creative Curriculum at Early Years has been a crucial part in obtaining this goal throughout the center! This curriculum allows for ample free choice time along with a balance of structured learning activities. This combination is allowing for teachers to focus on all areas of development throughout the day. THANKEmployee YOU - - - THANK YOU - - Update: YOU!! that Nikki We are happyTHANK to announce will be taking on the role of our Center Coordinator! She will continue working with the Director in focusing on the quality of the program. Along with her continued Lead Teacher role she will also be promoting effective relationships between families and teachers. When families and teachers work together, children’s development and learning can blossom! Our goal is to build those connections between a child’s two most important worlds: center/school and home. The Center Coordinator can provide those opportunities, giving parents the chance to get to know our passionate early childhood teachers, enjoy your child’s skills, and meet other parents like you in the Fargo-Moorhead Community. Parent Committee News: Hello Parents! I’m excited to be coordinating the Parent Committee! I have heard from quite a few of you that are willing to participate…this is great!!
