I think we were all “stuffed” from the huge, delicious plates of food! Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Throughout the year, many people have helped with the socials, and I thank you one and all - from Kathy Lostumbo, who is always there when I need her, to those who helped clean up, sell tickets, move chairs, etc. at the many socials during the year (3 per month). Your help is much appreciated. ! Pat Dilmore, ! Social Chairman.! ! Presidents Corner! Welcome to 2015! Wow, fifteen years into the new century; seems like only yesterday we were being bombarded with concerns about “Y2K”. Time does seem to fly, especially in our Apple world with new iDevices, Operating Systems, and multitudes of Apps. So here are some “not quite” resolutions for us SunMac-ers:! Enjoy your new iDevices: Explore what you can do with your iPad/Phone - remember your iPad and iPhone are designed to be touched.! Share your questions and discoveries: Enrich our classes with your comments and participation - we are all interested in your comments because we learn from each other, even if we are unable to answer your specific question (at the moment!)! Come to the monthly Socials: Enjoy a cup of coffee & a “num num” - the enjoyment of informal conversation is pervasive and delightful. Becoming acquainted and strengthening relationships throughout our Club membership keeps our Club thriving, growing, and creative.! State your ideas for General Meeting Topics: Exchange your ideas - what would you like to see & hear at our monthly meetings, might it be Health & Fitness Apps; navigating our own SunMacs website; how to organize your photos, create albums, and share them on-line; or (your idea here) …. Please discuss 2 January 2015 your ideas for these meetings with any of the Club officers, especially Dave Swanson our 1st VP. ! Volunteer within the Club: Entertain and act on Club positions - we are all volunteers in our Club and we need each other to take turns keeping the Club lively, fresh, and running smoothly. Monitor, instruct a class, lead a round-table, conduct a Special Interest Group (SIG), be an officer. Especially consider being an officer - each of us welcomes help, is eager to describe what we do, and we need to be replaced. Talk to us, it is more fun than you might think to be active and volunteer!! ! ! Best wishes to all y’all for new and exciting moments in this New Year of 2015! It is great and a privilege to be a SunMac-er! Paul :>)! ———————————! GENERAL MEETING - SATURDAY, JANUARY 10, 9:00 AM - SUNDIAL WEST HALL 3 The Newsletter of the Apple Macintosh Computer Club of Sun City Arizona! Class Descriptions – January 2015 Address Book: This session is a class on how to best utilize the Label feature of the Mac Address Book. Come & always bring your devices. The iOS classes are one hour long for four (4) days. Ancestry.com/Reunion Round Table: This session will explore the ancestry.com research genealogy program. iPad ONLY Round Table: Come & bring your iPad. Let’s share what we know about this tablet. NoniPad owners are welcome. Beginner Spreadsheets: This session is a lesson on developing basic spreadsheets using the Numbers program of iWorks. Similar to Excel. Board Meeting: The Board Members meet at this time. Dictation Tips for iPad/iPhone: Pick up a few tips on how to use the dictation mode on your iPad or iPhone. That little microphone icon can make your life a little bit easier when you want to send text messages, emails, write letters, or other tasks where words are needed. iPhone Round Table: Bring your iPhone and talk with others about what’s good, bad & ugly. If you don’t have an iPhone, come & see what it’s all about. Laptop Basics: Read the description for the regular Mac Basics below. Three sessions not five. You must preregister for all sessions. Sign up sheet is in the clubroom. Drop Box RT? Learn how this app lets you bring your photos, docs, and videos and share them easily. Never email yourself a file again! Mac Basics: Purpose: (1) To learn the basic functions of the Macintosh computer using OSX; (2) To provide hands on experiences to practice these functions; and (3) To promote a desire to learn more about the many features of the Mac computer. You must pre-register for all sessions. Sign up sheet is in the clubroom. The classes are one hour long for five sessions. Genealogy SIG: This group is for those who are interested in studying their roots and exchanging ideas & researching techniques. Maintenance: Bring your computer woes to this session and Colonel will help you with your problems. Hallmark Cards: Hands on class where you learn to use templates and make beautiful cards. New Mac Walk In Help: Find out some things your need to know to work your Mac-- for those who don’t like to read Manuals. iOS DEVICES • This four (4) day Class is designed for the iPad (some of the settings will apply to the iPhone and the iPod Touch if they are using iOS7): Day One will cover iPad Basics. Day two will cover Working within the App Store: Day three will cover Working with iCloud: Day four will cover Working on Line with Safari and Mail: New Member / Monitor Training: All new members are encouraged to attend this orientation session. Learn about your new club and the classes and activities available. Monitor Training discussion will also be included. It is important for all members to give back to their club. Serving as a monitor is one way to do that. RT: RT stands for “Round Table”. RTs are discussion groups lead by a Facilitator in which Club Members share their knowledge with other 4 January 2015 members. A RT about the iPad might discuss how you would use a Map to lay out a trip and navigate through a city; or, an efficient way to search, find and evaluate a restaurant; or, discover how to translate/share e-mails with your Norwegian relatives. It is very important to realize that a RT is not an “instruction event” with an Instructor who teaches a class. RTs are usually a small group of about ten people; if larger, the RT would likely break up into smaller groups for topical knowledge sharing. A RT is where you would probably have your question answered and you would most likely answer someone else’s question. Sharing your Genealogy: This session will explore ways to share your genealogy with others. Please bring your ideas to share. Social: Club members get together, talk and exchange ideas over coffee & goodies. Time Machine: This application automatically saves up-to-date copies of everything on your Mac — photos, music, videos, documents, applications, and settings. If you ever have the need, you can easily go back in time to recover anything. Walk In Help: A club member will be available to help with problems related to your computer. Classes - Any classes you would like to have scheduled, please let me know. Thanks. Michael Erickson [email protected] The Newsletter of the Apple Macintosh Computer Club of Sun City Arizona! MONITORS! Why should you consider serving as a monitor?! The Recreation Centers Chartered Club Board Policy states:! “All clubs are required to have club monitors...in the event a club monitor is not present during club scheduled activities, the club will be closed.” ! In order to comply with these rules, we need all members to participate.! ! Also: ! • It is not a difficult job! • We are an all volunteer club! • Easy way to give back to your club! • Only takes two hours of your time! • Wonderful way to meet other members of the club! • Opportunity to sit in on a class you might not ordinarily attend! • Don’t need to be a computer expert! ! There will be a New Member Orientation/Monitor Training class on Monday, January 12, 2015. The class will be at 9:00 AM.! ! Barbara Craft ! Monitor Chairman! ! ! January 2015 INVITATION! All new members of SunMacs Computer Club are invited to attend our New Member Orientation scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2015. The session will begin at 9:00 AM. Come and get acquainted with your new club. You will learn more about the classes, schedules, website, and other activities! ! A Note from your Treasurer! As of December 11th our 2015 membership is 59 New and 146 Renew. Last year we had 382 members. If you are one who needs to renew your membership, fill out the form on the back of this newsletter. (Return address labels work well.) Then bring it to the club room or to the General meeting on January 10th. Gary Burks, who maintains our data base and many other things for us, has been doing quite well at getting your membership card in the green box at the club room in one week. Please pick up your card and put it in the jacket on your lanyard. (New members get one free.) If you are renewing don't throw your old card away. Put it back to back with your new one in the jacket so it serves as a name tag even when the wrong side is showing. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.! Diane Kilian! 5 !
